Over time I have saved several dozen rounds which have failed to fire.  What is the safe/best way to dispose of them?

Tappel:

Call your local police and/or fire department.  They'll help you out...if not, call a shooting club/range.  Most municipal hazardous waste collection sites steer clear of ammunition, fireworks, etc.

Chris,
You're kidding right?? Ha Ha----that's a good one!! I am in LE and NEVER has anyone come to me to dispose of faulty ammo! Down here it would go into the river or the BBQ grill next cook out! Course we "good ol boys" are accoustomed to solving our own problems. May not be the best solution, but hey, it's a solution!!

Yes...I am guilty of giving tappel the PC answer.   I'm sure he figured where he could take it from there.  Besides, I'm the forum moderator...and I should suggest to "do the right thing".

I guess in the long run your right..."EVERYTHING eventually ends up in the ground from whence it came"...right?   wink wink

Whew,---------I do however, accept unwanted factory ammo for the purpose of proper and safe disposal. Hey, I'll even accept unwanted firearms that might be creating a hazard around the house----
Feel free to tell anyone about these services!

Pull the bullets with a pair of pliers, dump the powder in the toilet, and try the primers again. You may have to keep turning the case in the chamber several times until it finally goes off. The main problem with rimfires is the primer material. Federal used to be notorious about not having enough primer material in the cases. To prime these things, they put in a small amount of prime and spin the cases.

OR---------keep indexing and snapping them till they fire-----OR till you get tired, THEN deposit them in the nearest tributary or hole in the ground. If at the range throw them over the berm. Simple solution to a (complex?) problem.
