Thanks for all the advice on my questions about the 97 in 41 mag a few posts down.  I had thought of going to the 83 but after listening to your suggestions and traveling out to a dealer in the Gettysburg area where I had a chance to handle a number of different FA's I went with the 97.  Will use for woods carry, targets and deer hunting, maybe black bear. 250 WFN at about 1100-1300 depending on the laod, as well as 210-220 jsp's should do the trick. 

The 83 seemed more appropriate in the larger bores (dealer had a 500 WE, 6" roundbutt, that was real nice on the big frame, too much gun for me though). 

4.25" ( I guess unlike most, I can see the sights much better on short barrels than long.)
roundbutt, micarta, express rear sight, fiber optic front sight, action job
also ordered the new trijicon base, that half oz. red dot might be nice in dim hunting conditions.

 Congrats on the new gun Benny! The way you set it up seems to me to be about perfect for a hip carry walking-in-the-woods gun. Did you see any pics of that new base? I can't find any info on the FA site.

Hey benny. You go to Taylors in Biglerville for that M97? He's the best in the business, hands down. Best of guys too.

yep, went to taylor's.  looking forward to receiving the 97, still some weeks away.  as far as the trijicon base, i don't know what it looks like.  i imagine it is pretty small as it only works with the small red dot.  fa had just received the bases themselves the day i ordered the gun.
