New Handi Owner
« on: November 03, 2007, 05:28:41 AM »
I bought a Pardner pump 12 ga. earlier this year, and was very impressed with the quality in a value segmented firearm.  Even though the Pardner is made in China, I still like it and it feels just like a Rem 870.  Anyway, I have been wanting a new deer rifle in 270 Win. for the past year.  I have talked myself in and out of it a hundred times.  Now hooked on NEF/H&R, I decided to look into the Handi-Rifle.  I found this forum and began reading.  There are several wise men here that provide great information.  Thank you all.

I bought a Handi in 270 Win.  I decided on a wood stock and blue finish.  I put a BSA Classic 4x32 on it using Weaver medium height rings.  I also installed a #8 0-ring to float the barrell.  I bore sighted it and headed for the range.  I had a box of 130gr PSP Core-Lokts and a target at 25 yards.  First 3 rounds ever fired from my new toy, and I had a single jagged hole group.  WOW!  Granted it was not in the center, but it was a beautiful group.  I dialed in the scope to shoot about 1/2 inch low at 25 yards.  Mathmatically this should have me zeroed at 200 yards.  I am very pleased with my Handi.  I have run about 100 rounds through it and tried all the big 3 factory loads.  I have come to the conclusion that Federal Power-Shok 130gr Soft Points are it's favorite.  My local Cabela's has them on sale for $10 a box to boot.  I added a Butler Creek Alaskan Magnum sling for deer season.  It has 4 cartridge loops on the sling.  Should be perfect for a single shot setup.

Just thought I'd share my experience with the group.  Thanks again to everyone!

Welcome to the forum,  it's always good to hear from happy Handiholics!! ;) The Power Shoks are one of the favorites here, they seem to do very well in a lot of chamberings, and at a great price too!! You may be able to get a rebate on the Federal ammo and make it an even better deal!! ;)

Welcome dks7895

.270 Win. is a fine choice. All I've ever put through mine is Core-Lokt's. The Blacktail seem to be satisfied.

Enjoy the good folks and info here on GBO.

The 270 is a great round in the Handi and if you handload give the 90gr. Sierra HPs over IMR4350 a try , makes a sweet long range varmint gun for groundhogs and yotes .  ;)
