I was out again today shooting my bp mortar and took a few more videos. The file size is 1.46 MB and almost 2 mins. long. Some video quality was sacrificed to keep the size reasonable.

I was shooting 1,000 grs. of Goex Fg with a 2lb. lead ball. Distance achieved was approximately 600 yds. What a blast! I'm having lots of fun. I just need to find larger field so that I can even think of finding the balls to use again. In the video, I'm just blasting them far into the woods.

Again, good pix. Would the vcr capture the round if it were pointed up a bit? When I shoot (16-20-24oz soda bottles, beer can, and 4.5" calibers) usually one can see the round when standing right behind the piece. (Of course with the heavier charges going out 1000 yards or who knows how far, the round is just a blur at first and disappears fast.
It's fun to hear the 7-1/2 lbs of concrete come ripping down through the trees as well.
I'll bet your times of flight are lengthening too.

Tim, tracking the projectiles is starting to become a problem partly because of the distance but mainly due to the forested area that I'm presently shooting from.

I plan on re-locating to a large field and painting the lead balls bright orange and attaching marking tape to use as a streamer during flight. I'll have more fun and I'll be able to retrieve a significant number of projectiles.

The time of flight is definitely increasing, I would suspect it is approximately 6 seconds out to 500-600 yards. If I had access to a laser range finder, I could accurately measure the distance.

I've got future plans to launch homemade signaling devices that should prove to be fairly entertaining. :-)

Gee guys, for fun this week I drove my wife, grand daughter and mother in law from one antique shop to another in Maine...to get there I had to drive through Washington DC, MD, DE, New Jersey, NY, CONN and MASS. What did you guys do for fun!
