thoughts about sabots and cast bullet load data
« on: November 07, 2007, 04:43:07 PM »
Hey guys,

I was sitting here looking over a couple of boxes of sabotted  bullets I have that are too tight for my inline, since they use a 45 cal pistol bullet I got a strange idea, the pistol bullets are 452 dia, and I have a bunch of 450 dia. cast bullets in both 400 and 500 grain that I normally use for paper patching. So popped the breach plug out of my inline and ran one through, tight fit, but not too tight. So, I got th thinking, as heavy as these are I guess I would only want to try the 400 grain bullets, but as this is an older CVA with 1:48 twist I am not sure of the powder charge. My normal load I use is 80 grains of Goex FFG behind a 180 grain .40 cal QT, but I am all out of them right now and have these here. So, what do you guys think? Would it be mad to try them in this old CVA inline with such a slow twist, and if not what charge? Would the normal 80 grain charge I use be ok, or do you think it would be too much for it?

Thanks,
Greg

I would try 70 gr. just to see where you are at and work up from there. I am sure you won't have a problem. Let us know how it works out for you.
