new 45 1911 (sorta)
« on: June 03, 2008, 11:45:11 PM »
isnt a true 1911 but Picked up a para carry. its a officers sized  stainless slide alloy grip frame 3 inch gun with a lda trigger. Ive wanted to try an lda for a long time and never got around to it. Figured this would be the alitmate carry gun if it runs well. With the lda trigger a guy could carry it with a loaded round in the chamber and not even need to use the saftey. Just pull it out and shoot. I shot a few rounds of cast out the door last night and it seems to have a slight problem with allways going into battery. I think some deaper seating might cure it as it must have a slightly short chamber. I sure like that lda trigger so far though.

Lloyd, I look forward to an upcoming review.  I have a custom Para P-16 that has both 40 S&W and 10mm Briley barrels fitted.   Love using it for hunting and would like to try their smaller 1911 LDA for carry..........RW

well it wasnt good. i ended up bringing it back to the buddys gunshop. I shot about 200 rounds of mixed handloads with cast and jacketed and factory ammo and didnt get a single clip full that ran reliably. Its probably something simple but i just dont have the time to fart with an unrealiable gun right now. Ive got to many other things going on in my life.

Lloyd - that bites.  You have had the worst problems with Springfields, and now the Para.  I could understand if your fingers aren't long enough to reach the trigger or you aren't tall enough to see over the sights but I sorta doubt this is the case.

Do you need a new barrel with a deeper chamber???  You said 'mixed handloads' - did you get the chance to throw some factory ball or mil-surp out the door????  I usually shoot handloads in all my fuerty-cincos but always have some ball factory/mil-spec around to make sure I have a proper chamber and a new gun functions on mil-spec ammo.  Do the handloads you shoot need to have the boolets seated deeper????  If the chamber is of proper depth can you bevel or relieve the immediately presenting lands as you would bevel the forcing cone in a revolver???

Is there anything we can do to help???  Can you ship me that fawlty pistol and 40 lbs of handloads and let me wring it out fer ya???  I will clean it properly, just to show ya that I can take it all apart and even get it back together without any spare parts left over.  Yor Fren, Mikey.

ive actually had two other paras and found them to be decent guns. Im sure this one could be fixed easy enough with a trip back to para but ive got to many other things to deal with right now and dont need another headache. the dealer i got it from is going to send it in. If it comes back right it may be at the house again someday.
