I saw a real large spike buck this morning around 9:15, he'll be a monster in 3 years or so. Will go out again around 2, rut has started, they are moving  at all hours of the day and nite.

It happened ....and it wasn't good, lol.  Before shooting light a doe walked within about 10 feet of my stand.  No shot.  Then, about 8:15 two doe were in front of me, about 25 yds.  I clicked my safety off, put the crosshairs on her chest and......pop, not BAM.  My cap went off but no powder lit.  She didn't get all that spooked, just turned around and slowly walked off.  I re-primed and shot to see if the gun would go off and it did.  I loaded the gun last night, set it on the porch overnight and took it with me this morning.  It was very foggy and a lot of moisture in the air so that must have done it, I don't know.  Ended up seeing a nice buck but in too thick of cover for a shot plus couldn't get him to stop.  Anyway, a nice day in the stand.  Plan on being there in the morning too.  Geez, I was already counting on deer meat in the freezer.  Serves me right for putting the cart before the horse.  Out again in the morning.  Good luck all, Greg

Saw 4 yesterday evening, a spike, doe and too small does, right under my stand. Passed on them, maybe should have taken the doe. Rut is starting for sure, the spike was  after the doe. May go back out this PM, watching NASCAR race now. Will go out tomorrow PM for sure. I've left my BP rifles loaded for over a week and they always fired............

Shot a small buck this morning.  I'm not sure how much more I'll get to hunt and needed meat in the freezer.  Saw 6 yesterday and as Poncaguy said the bucks were chasing the does.  They never did stop long enough for a good shot.  Hopefully I can get out Sunday morning and take a doe.  We'll see.  Good luck all, Greg

Well, Sunday evening was the last  of black powder, had  a spike and small racked 6  point around my tree stand for 30-40 minutes, passed on them, let them grow. Saw no does. Back to the crossbow  until rifle season.........
