50 cal Packer

Howdy Everyone,
Anryone else packing a 50 cal.
I pack a 500 Linb. by Mr Reeder or 50 EA Desert Eagle.
Bears are 350 to 400 plus and to many kittys that will walk up and think you are lunch.
So anyone else packing these hanbcannons?

my two 500 linebaughs. Stainless is a round 4 inch round butted gun blued is a 4 inch round butted oct barreled gun. Stainless by John Linebaugh blued by dustn Linebaugh

another one i used to own a 4 3/4 500 by John Linebaugh. I won this at the linebaugh seminar a few years ago. My best friend talked me out of this one.

Lloyd those grip are really something on that adjustable sighted gun! I have been thinking of doing a poor boy 45 Colt like that one by installing a Bisley grip frame to a 4 5/8" convertible and adding Bowen Rough country rear sights and a Belt Mountain Base pin. In 475 or 500 it would be just way cooler. Why is it you let Al talk you out of that bad boy by the way?

My favorite .50 is a 6" FA .50 AE / .500 WE convertible. The AE for the light stuff, the WE for the serious stuff.

You absolutely DO NOT NEED that much gun for 350 LB bears and mt. lions.  A well stoked .44 mag will do the job just fine and cost you a lot less all the way around.  Having said that, I'd be pack'n my FA '83 in 454 Casull but that just 'cuz I really like that gun, knowing all along that my 4" 629 would be all I'd need.

well ... I appreciate you guys so carefully and positively addressing my inadequacies .. but Ms. Hitman told me that it was "just alright and was not a real big bore... not being a true 511 caliber and all" lol... made me feel kind of "less than"  LOL
I am superficial like that ...
 one day I will get a five hundred linebaugh but I gotta grow more hair first or something... at least my elbow has to heal... and I will have to sell something first...

Honestly, thanks for the reassurance... I do love my gun and would not be sure I would like a 50 more..
but to all you guys who have the big nifty fifties...

YOU ARE THE MAN... I am not the man --when you are around -- LOL -- I am leaving you and going to the rimfire forum ... ;)

What I said was the .475 would make an excellent sub-caliber trainer for the .500.  The .475 is fine; if it's all ya got.

Let's face it...the animals have smartened up and wear kevlar.  44 Cal non-expanding bullets have become as ineffective on game as penicillin on strep. ;D

I guess the reason is our Loosianna Swamp Deer are tough from swimming all the time... and diving the depths for sunken acorns... cllimbing trees for moss to eat...

With those two Linebaughs isn't recoil a issue. Looks like it would hurt the hand. I hunt Boars with a .357. Boy do i feel under gunned.

Both Linebaugh calibers are fun to shoot and may be loaded from mild to wild.  I've yet to find a deer that could stop a 400 grain bullet traveling 800 + fps from the muzzle.  Recoil in that range is very tolerable; even for 13 year old girls.

Nothing wrong or under powered concerning .44s for deer, just use the proper bullet.

And ya'll don't dk fool ya; deer quake at the very mention of his name.

grips are a pail of select french walnut that Scott Kolar was saving for himself and i talked him out of. The reason i sold the gun to AL other then hes my best friend and i would do about anything for him is that the year I won that gun at the linebaugh semiar, Al recieved Johns coveted award of "one to ride the river with" Its an award given each year to someone that he feels is not only a great handguner but a man you could trust your life too. The gun I won was engraved with the seminar and year and Al really wanted it to go with the award. Aint like he really needed it i think hes up to 6 linebaugh guns now. Beleive  me though that one and all the rest are far from safe queens.
