Update on "not so accurate" 270WSM
« on: October 30, 2007, 01:51:08 PM »
Well, I posted a while back after my bad luck at the range with the 270WSM. I had shot 130gr. TSX's and 130gr. ballistic silvertips and both couldn't shoot much better than a 3" group if I were lucky...

I went back to the range this past weekend with some 150gr. Nosler Partitions and I'm glad to say the gun shot great. I shot a group of 3/4" at 100 yards more than once so I'm pleased.

I don't know what the deal was with the TSX's and the ballistic silvertips, but needless to say I won't be shooting them anymore.

Glad to hear you got the 270wsm shooting. So far my Remington 700xcr in 270wsn really likes the factory Winchester 150gr. Power -Point ammo. I haven't had time to reload for it yet. I am getting a chronographed 3200fps. and 1/2" groups at 100yds. I have some 140gr. Nosler accubonds and Hornady 140gr.spbt that I am going to try when I have time.
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr

Im still trying to figure out why the 130's didn't shoot very good when the 150's did. I want to say the ballistic tips shot good last year.

Anyhow, the 3/4" groups I shot was also in a 20-30mph wind...not too shabby.

Maybe the gun was still shooting terribly but the wind blew the bullets into the nice groups. ;D

Seriously.... I can relate. I hear so much about the TSX's and the Ballistic tips that I'd like to use then (not the BT's for deer) but, I can't get them to shoot in my guns either. All my guns prefer Sierra's and Hornady's. But I really don't mind too much because they work well and are sooo much cheaper to!

Na, I don't think it was the winds fault.

I've had bad luck with the ballistic tips and the TSX's. The 264 Win Mag shot the TSX's great, but the 270WSM doesn't seem to like them too much. Well, I'll just go back to the partition...saves me from having to clean all the copper fouling from the barrel.

Same here... Hndy or Sierras.  Have you tried Hndy SST's or Interbonds yet?

obviously you gotta find what your gun shoots well with, even various loads with the same velocity and bullet weight can shoot differently

one thing I have heard and read about the all copper bullets is that they must be shot from a extremely clean barrel and the slightest bit of copper fouling can be detrimental to accuracy
