new problem
« on: November 10, 2007, 10:35:22 AM »
I have a .22 rifle barrel for my contender.  For some reason it will now occasionally fire when closing the action. The hammer is not back and my finger is no where near the trigger.  In fact the hammer still will cock (like it has never fired).  There is a VERY feighnt impression on the the shell casing.  At first glance it would be easy to miss.  I am using Federal Gold Metal ammo if it matters.  What is my problem?

Maybe the firing pin spring is broken and it scrapes across a non-retracted firing pin when you close it?  Otherwise, I have no clue.  Let us know what you find.

Also your firing pin area may be dirty and not letting the firing pin retract, that would allow the firing pin to stick out enough to hit the rim when closing.
