Future direction for this forum
« on: September 18, 2007, 11:05:45 AM »
Crowhop brings up a valid point. Due to inaction on my part this forum has gotten a long way off track from the purpose it was set up to accomodate. This is on my part at least partly because I'm really wanting to move valid Bigfoot activity to the Bigfoot Study Forums at GBO Freeforums.

It's really been a long time since we've had posting of stories of encounters and such here and it has sorta gotten to be a matter of copying posts from other sites and pasting here and then the heckling begins. So I'll let the users/potential users of this forum decide its fate.

Option one means what it says we'd maintain the status quo and no changes would be made. Anyone who wants can post to include hecklers.

Option two moves things back to the way they were (more or less) when we called it Strange Things Seen in the Outdoors. That means posting is open to all but is restricted to stories of what you've seen/heard and valid comments about them. Hecklers and nay sayers basically not allowed. Also not allowed would be copying and pasting of posts from other sites just for the purpose of making snide comments about them.

Option three would take us back to where we were when this forum under this name was originally established to break it from the Strange Things forum. That would mean ONLY those folks who are members of the GBO BFRG would be allowed to post or reply. Membership to the group would be strictly limited to those who have an expressed interest in things related to bigfoot and the strange sightings that can't be or haven't been explained. This would be a STRICTLY no heckling mode of operation as those who gain membership and then heckle would immediately lose that membership. It would also mean that copying and posting of posts from other sites to offer snide comments would not be allowed. It would be limited expressly to sharing of your stories and comments/questions from others regarding them or events they've heard of from others.

So think on it and decide. I really don't care one way or another to be honest with you. I personally want most Bigfoot activity to be on the GBO FreeForum Bigfoot Study forum site but have no particular problem with maintaining this one for that also or for whatever purpose the majority wants it to be. But no pissing and moaning afterwards over the outcome of the vote. Which ever option gets the most votes between now and the end of this month will be the direction we take.

I'm for mutual respect....no trolling and flaming of other members...no using this forum as a base of operations to carry on a feud with others on other BF forums...no non believers telling believers they are full of bs....a 3 strikes warning system for those that break the rules....and a fair moderater...that will not take sides to enforce the rules.....lively debate allowed but flat out insults and character assassinations not allowed!

How about option #4...

Get the other site up and running and close down this forum.

Then, the hecklers would have no platform of operations and the BF guys would have their own outlet w/o having to deal with the peanut gallery troopers.

Well actually it is "up and running" as far as the forums go. Getting Matt to convert them to this forum software format and get the home page up all under the new Domain tho is a tough sell. It's on Matt's list of things to do but not very high on it I'm afraid.

Graybeard,

I think that you asked, in other words, what direction this forum should take.  And you, with some help, proved that it isn't even safe to ask a simple question!

Option #3.

This latest flare up has given Matt some impetus to move the www.BigfootStudy.com site up a few notches on his "to do list" so it might get done in the next few days I hope. If so then the forums will cease to exist as GBOfreeforums and move to the domain name. All content, all sections and forums will remain intact. Memberships should as well. But we will have to reestablish the rankings and such I think and post counts and such might revert back to zero even tho your posts will be there.

I'm hoping that he gets the Home Page for that domain up and running as well.

IF/WHEN that happens this forum will cease to exist here at GBO and it will be meshed back into the Strange Things Seen Forum from which it was taken.

No. The transistion should be just like the one here at GBO when we left the forum software that is still in use on the GBO Freeforums and moved to this software we now use. When the move is eventually made Matt will just copy the database there and do whatever it is he does to change that database to this software we use at GBO.

For the most part the transistion will be seamless to users but a bit less so for Admin.

I really want all Bigfoot activity to be there rather than here at GBO and eventually it will be.

Suits me.

I'm fixing to go out to the western end of my state, Alfalfa County, to close on the purchase of another quarter-section.  That willl give me another half mile of Eagle Chief Creek.  While I'm there, I might have a chance to check that section of the creek out for tracks and such.  Surely will be deer and turkey, but you never know what else.

My wife's dad once told me about an old farmer who said, "I don't want all the land: just that that joins me."
