Finally a combo I can live with
« on: December 06, 2007, 03:21:04 PM »
I hope that I haven't spoken too soon.

I have been looking at a good mid bore combo since I sold my 50's vintage Brno in 7mm and 12 a few years ago.

I lucked into a Zoli (never a fan before) in 12ga with chokes (well, at least mod) over a 6.5x55.  Even came with a Valmet scope mount.
Not a bad gun: Kerstin action, double triggers, no set, and adjustable barrels that look similar to the Valmet.

Checkering pattern could have used some more imagination, but the fit is good and it appears well put together.  I haven't gotten it out to the range yet but after deer season is over it will probably be the first thing that I do.

Could post pictures but it really isn't very exciting.  Just hoping that I can expect some reasonable accuracy out of it.  That would have made the search and the wait worth it.

Cheers

Tom

Glad you found the combo you can live with...  Please post pics.  I know I am interested...

How does the Valmet QD scope mount work on the Zoli?

Fortunately, I have been able to use the same Valmet scope mount with a Mueller scope work on 2 different barrel sets.  One being a 12/9.3x74r and the other being a 12/.222.  The 12/9.3x74r is regulated for slugs at 100 yards while the 12/.222 is setup for BBB at 50 yards.

Now if I can only figure out what to do with my extra 20 ga barrel set, I shot 12 and 16 but not 20 ga....

Here is a pic.

The scope is a Burris 3-9 as I didn't have anything else to put on it at the time.

Nice looking gun...

You should look at the Mueller Multishot 2-7x scope, I have one and the reticle really works great on a combo gun.

Took it out today with a reload with no real load development -  (129gr hornady over 42 gr of AA4350 at 2750) and it shot into 1/2 inch for three rounds.
That was with a cool down period inbetween shots.  When I fired a quick string the group moved vertically an inch and grouped there.

Nothing surprising except for the accuracy.

Cool...
Oh yeah, they reversed the trigger, rear fires the rifle which definately makes it an easier shooter.

Tom,
looks like you have the find there.

The O/U combo guns I have owned all had the back trigger fire the bottom barrel, which has always been the rifle.

Are you planning to hunt with the Zoli

Hello Doug.

The BRNO that I owned fired the rifle with the front trigger which was a set.  Quite a reach due to the grip angle.

I bought this gun after hunting Chincoteague NWR a few years back.  They have a hunt for Sika every year on drawing, and after the first time I was hooked.
You could take shots as far as a few hundred yards or you could  jump them in the tall grass and a load of OO buck (nothing smaller is legal) would do.
For me the perfect gun would be a drilling with claw mounts and a shotgun safety in 12ga (for the OO buck) over any medium rifle.
I don't feel like selling the Meffert 7mm I currently own and my pockets aren't that deep at the moment so I went back to looking for a combo.
The trigger needs work but I'm not too concerned as it's already a shooter.  The only choke that I have is a Mod, but that seemed to work best with buck which was my main concern.

Tom
I plan to regulate the barrels over the next few days.

You're right, rifle was on the top.

Back trigger always fires the bottom tube.
