re-assembly question
« on: December 15, 2007, 06:23:30 AM »
I have a question for anyone who is fimiliar with re-assembling my 1911. I know the basic strip down but last night I removed the main spring housing and of course the sear spring came out. Now when I re-assemble the gun the way I believe it is supposed to be the sear never engages the hammer. I know I'm doing something wrong but cannot figure out how to get it right.

you have the sear spring not laying in the correct position on top of the sear hammr hook, the left sear leaf has to sit on top of the sear L/S hook the center leaf sits on the trigger bow and the right sear leaf for the palm safety

Randy, Lone - thank you and you are correct. Once I got the spring in the correct position it all worked. Again thanks

I once had a Gold Cup with a sear spring, and replaced the sear with a Chip McCormick sear and threw the danged spring out (far out).  (In fact, so far I never even thought about looking for it again).  (I think I even ran over it with the lawnmower).

Just thought I would throw that in, in the event you ever decide you get tired of messing with that teeny, tiny, uncooperative and non-compliant spring.  Just a thought.  Mikey.

Its one of those tasks that requires three hands and one of those hands needs fingers that are 9 inches long with an eyeball on the end.

You guys must be talking about the tiny coil spring that fits in the sear of a Gold Cup and which only a Gold Cup has.   Has anyone successfully gotten that spring back in?   I worked on mine once for a hour or so then.....ping and it was gone forever.
