Sierra bullet question...
« on: November 06, 2007, 05:10:44 PM »
Why would they make a fmj bullet in the gameking line?
They offer one in the .243, 90gr.
Do some states allow you to hunt with fmj bullets?
In Tennessee,  I have been told no.

They are legal here in CO for non game animals but actually using them is not a great idea. Their usefulness doesn't extend beyond the battlefield. They are not known for being particularly accurate and they ricochet like a pinball.

They make them because people have asked for them and the demand has made it worth while to make and sell. Why, is anyone's guess. They are not a very good killer, they will pass through with out much damage. They ricochet all over the place. Usually cheap so they are not the most accurate bullet made. The only possible reasons I could think for it is fur bearing critters, punching holes through body armor, steel or cheap blasting. Personally I do not fit any of those categories. I had some where around 500 in .224 given to me, I sure would not have bought them I think the guy was using them for pistol silhouette events with a 22 Hornet and got out of it. I have used a few to sight in a scope to at least get me into the ball park. I could see using them for fire forming a case since they were free, but I have to be very careful where I shoot them.

I guess what was puzzling to me was the "Gameking" product name added to the fmj.
The gameking is advertised to be a long range hunting bullet, and at 90gr I wasn't thinking of it as a varmint bullet.
Thanks for the input.

You're not talking about the HPBT bullet, are you? Gamekings are usually some of the more accurate bullets out there.

I don't see a reason not to shoot the ball ammo on a range with a good back stop , it is a cost savings !

Just curious, as my son gave me a box of 165 grain HPBT  item # 2140. These are labeled GameKings.  They look similar to the MatchKings, with the MatchKings having a more pronounced point.

if you take a soup can and cut one lid off and throw it open end forward it will spiral better than if you throw it with a solid end forward . the reason for HP target loads .
game kings are for hunting , match kings for target shooting
