Pine Marten territory
« on: November 09, 2007, 10:27:02 AM »
???  Anyone out there know if the Pine Marten inhabits Missouri, Arkansas, or here in extreme Eastern Oklahoma?   I saw a kitten like critter the other morning that pretty much fits a marten's description, but I've never heard of them being this far south.   Thought I'd ask you guys, as you're familiar with what is and what isn't out there.

Thanks

LG,never heard of any in your area, but with animals, who knows for sure? Some animals seem to be wanderers, and show up a long ways from where they are supposrd to be.

Email your state department of natural resources, they'll be able to tell you. If they are not sure, theyll be glad to hear of any sightings. Mostly pine martens like a colder climate. Some of the maps ive seen find them in the west in higher elevations. The way you descibed them with the hopping gait describes them perfectly. Here in michigan the DNR has been re popu;ating them in certain areas. They are really neat to watch.
