Why won't dealers come off the MSRP????

I'm looking for a cheap reliable atv for my help to use around the farm feeding my turkeys.  I'm looking at a 2007 Kawasaki Bayou 250 and the msrp is $2999. It's enough to haul a small trailer and do what I want.  The Hondas, Yamaha, and Suzuki models are $500-700 more.   I can't get any of the dealers (2) around me to budge from that. Is $2600-2700 to much to ask.  They were both content with me walking out the door with my money.  They did offer me no taxes, big wup to do I said as all my farm machines have been tax free.   I'm offering cash with no trade in.  Is it the wrong time to buy or do I need to travel to another dealer?

When I bought my 2005 Yamaha Bruin 350 new immediately after the 2005 models hit the showroom floors the various 250s were going for $3500 MSRP and they weren't coming off that much. So it seems to me the price is quite low now compared to then. What else do you know that has done that? If you can get it for $2900 and no tax I say you're getting a super deal.

I bought a Bayou 220 in 1993 for $3000, and that was a little below retail at that time. I think you are getting a good deal.

my 1984 Kawasaki and 1984 Yamaha are still both running fine and get me and my wife where ever we wish to go.  For the amount of use you get out of the vehicle, it is worth the price.  Check out E-bay and Craig's list before you buy.

Try finding a dealer in a small town, they are like eggs, they are cheaper in the country. 
I know they don't sell at MSRP around here.  NE Kansas.  people are too poor and there are a lot of them out there.
I would get on the net and go to the yellow pages and find a country dealer for what you want.

The problem is I live in the country compared to most and there are only two dealers in about 30 miles of me.

Yeah, that's what they said too about the price. I want to buy new because I've had terrible luck with anything used/ tractors/boats etc. I also want a warranty. The only exception is vehicles.  Kawasaki has recently dropped their prices on the Bayou b/c they want to sell more of them ( bad year for big ticket items) and it is their most popular model.   The other makes are $500-700 more and offer little in advantages.  They haven't change the Bayou except more cc's in the engine for over 15 years.  They tell me it is one that they never have to work on except for people who store them with fuel in them and have gummed up carbs.  In SC, all farm equipment is mostly tax free with the exception of pickups.  I just thought the green stuff was more of a bargaining tool.  I even showed the manager at one place 27 $100 bills and no bite.  I've rat holed this money for the last three years knowing my help was tired of pushing wheel-barrows. I thought I finally had enough but I guess I need to save a little more.  Cash usually seals a deal pretty quick but in this case, it didn't work.  I love to bargain but these fellows ain't budging.  My wife said it was too close to Christmas and they didn't have to bargain, I dunno.

Times have changed!  Cash used to get you a better deal but not any more.  The dealer stands to make more on the deal if you ask for financing through them now days.  Believe it or not!  Markup on $2999 isn't much compared to the profit margin on a high apr credit account. 

BTW, the warranty you are concerned about is only as good as the dealer will let it be.  So if he doesn't make anything on the initial sale, I wouldn't expect too much.

Not trying ot bust anyone's chops here.  It's just the way things have gone these days.  Down hill.

What you may try is to get a bargain price if they will finance and then instead of making the first monthly payment just pay them in full.  Worked the last time I bought one.

Some off-name brands are coming out of China soon.  I know that there is an aversion to Chinese goods, but there is a big difference in price

And in quality too. They actually have been importing them and selling them here in my area for several years. They are definitely NOT up to the standards of quality of the Japanese bikes.

Been trying to sell the cheap stuff here also but folks appear to be smarter than that.  If you buy one and it needs a part in the future, and believe me it will especially if the buyer isn't going to be the one using it, where do you get them?  Next day air from Bejing can't be cheap.  Don't waste your money.  Spend the 3 grand and don't look back.  It's the cost of doing business.

To tell you guys the truth, I looked at some of the Chinese quads that they sell here.  None of them were over 150cc and those had manuals.  I would trust the engine before I would a Chinese gear box.  The Chinese quads look and feel cheap.  I want something that will last.  My help is tough on things as they use it everyday.  They are two teenagers that are still going to college and work part-time.  I try not to buy from countries that hate us and parts would always be hard to get.  I know many who have bought Japanese quads including myself and have had them for over 20 years.  I have a 110atc Honda three-wheeler that still runs.  It's too unstable to risk with my help.  I've cut corners with it too sharp and flipped it at least twice.  That is what brought me to looking at the 250 Bayou.  It is the cheapest name brand quad that will pull a trailer.
