Now I'm REALLY wanting to get started!
« on: November 18, 2007, 03:35:38 AM »
Just got back from trying out a neighbor's sportster setup and can't wait to start my own collection!
(I used to shoot a full stocked 22 Hornet as a kid, and I know I am reverting back to roots but...what the heck!)

The first rifle was in 25-06, and set up  in a Choate varmint stock.
He had added an adjustable SKS cheekrest, (from  ATI that goes for under 10bucks) and it really helped with the scope line up for me.

Second set-up was a 45-70 Buf-gun....... ULTIMATE long range finality!

He also has four other barrels/stock combos that we tried out, but this 25-06 and fiber stock balanced well with my upside-down left sholder sling carry mode.
(I know it looks kind of cheap/crappy but with a good spray-bomb camo I think it would work.)

I think the 25-06 will work for me on woodchucks/yotes.

Is this round just under .308 specs. or closer to .223?
(Everybody around here uses 22-250, and I am looking for more knockdown for yotes around 250 yards.)

Any help would be appreciated, because I am now getting the old money in the pocket burning,...hand shakes, and need to get a winter gun building project going.

the .25-06 is about the ultimate long range varmint round. it is also an incredible open country deer round. shoots real flat, real fast. you cant go wrong with it. i carry mine in the big timber in PA for deer and coyotes when i see em. get one. you wont regret it.

Liljohn, you'll have to post a want to buy/trade ad in the NEF Classifieds, you can't post it here, GBO rules prohibit solicitation in any other forums. ;)

Sorry bout' that!
I did have a plea mixed in with my 25-06 questions.
It was during my slack-jawn..drooling..withdrawl of test shooting a great rifle, and mixed with the antcipation of a new winter project.

Sorry to all, at the time of posting I wasn't thinking straight!

I picked up a 25/06 about 7 weeks ago and have not loaded the first round for it , now i have to get bizzy on it ( see what you did )  ;D as for the Varmint stocks , i just never cared for the looks of them but was given a set at last years p-dog shoot so i stuck them on my 22-250 to see how it shot .

Long story short , i LOVE them . you will too .
