Dissappointed
« on: November 05, 2007, 01:30:20 PM »
I really like the look and feel of my short barreled 12 and 20, but I have discovered that I find them uncomfortable to shoot.  I still need to play with different combinations of stock lengths to see if that changes things, much.  I'm not gonna play around too much 'till deer season is over, in a couple weeks.
Does anyone else have this problem??

What do you mean by "uncomfortable"?
Are you talking about the recoil?, the fit?, etc.

Do they have youth stocks on them now?

My 12 gauge "shorty" is uncomfortable sometimes too, especially with 3" magnums in it!!

If it's recoil, I'd start with a Limbsaver pad, then add a little weight or a mercury suppressor to the stock if that's not enough. ;)

I think part of it is the "shorty" stock.  I have a few kinks in my left shoulder and elbow, maybe bursitis, and it feels better when its stretched out.  I think the longer butt stock may cure that.  The recoil isn't too bad, I have recoil pads on those stocks.  They aren't Simms pads but they do a good job.  Mostly it's the sight picture and how my eyes focus on targets.  24" and longer seems to be better for me.  Which kinda stinks, 'cause there are no 20ga barrels available in that length.  I will have to have one cut down, if I find that works best for me.  As I said, I still have to play around with different length stocks to see what changes it makes in my sight picture.

Well, turns out that I'm gonna get a little help from snakeslayer.  Kevin needs a youth syn. stock and has a Huntsman stock to trade.  So we are gonna swap stocks.  That will give me another option to try.  I hope I can get this worked out without have to swap barrels.

I think so.  Seems that I need to use standard ADULT STOCKS.  With bifocals, the longer LOP gives me a better sight picture and helps me have better shooting posture.  The longer butt stock has helped me on the 22" barrels, too.  So, I think I have it figured out.  I think I will be able to stick with my 22" barrels, just not the youth length stocks.  WORKS FOR ME
