My son with his first deer and the NEF 44 Mag
« on: November 15, 2007, 02:53:28 PM »
The 44 Mag worked great and the deer dropped in his tracks. I way under estimated the accuracy, fun factor and killing power of this riffle!

Taylor with his first Deer and the 44 Mag, 102 yard shot open sights, taken just after lunch from a tree stand

Of course we had to get cousin Harry involved (he lost his dad to a heart attack when he was just a year or so old)

Jonathan with his first buck and the 722/257 Roberts in a rem classic stock topped off with a Luey scope and talley rings. forgot to range it but less than 100 yards. Taken earlier the same day from a tree stand not far from Taylor's deer.

And this was my bird hunting pard a couple weeks ago or so... Although the dogs all did well we didn't get anything but it was a god day for father/daughter bonding

Congratulations to all. I can remember all of my sons deer and turkeys, better than I can remember my own. There is just something special about passing along our heritage to the kids. Looks like you will be busy taking care of all the game your boys and daughter will provide for many years to come.

Thanks for all the kind words.... Taylor picked this riffle with open sights out of all the riffles I own, yeah I am very proud that he made his choice and made a good shot...

My oldest (in college now) has never got a deer and prefers turkey hunting (only because when he was 12 he got his first and it had 5 beards)

I use to say i wish that the kids would get more interested hunting but never tried to talk em into anything... This year they asked me to go and that in itself made me feel very good!

Jonathan has shot a couple deer before and this year wanted one with some horns.... He let the first deer go by but an hour later shot the one he wanted....

It was good Harry was around the share with the excitement, he needs some out door education....

BTW I loaned out my NEF 243 to my nephew Chis and was called the night before last to help him field dress a deer on my way home from work... It was his first too.... a good year for the NEFs around here!

  Congrats to that proud young man...

    I guess I don't have to tell you what you already know...Youngsters that are busy hunting, deer, squirrel & groundhogs, are very rarely found hunting trouble !

Any time someone can get a kid into the field that means that hunting is still alive even if for just one more day , you did a great thing here , i'm proud of all of you .

  Right on Stimpy;

  We have to do our best to preserve that great American heritage ...hunting !  ...And the very best way to do that is to take a kid hunting...
