How far are you going to be shooting? If you have never shot a handgun with a scope on it I would recommend you shoot one before you scope one.

I shoot open sights only on my revolvers, but I sight my 357 in at 75 yards, and my Single Sixes in at 50 yards(32 magnum), and 30 yards(22 long rifle).

How well can you shoot? The scope won't work miracles. My 44 has iron sights and is sighted in for 50 yards, but my .480 has a scope and is still sighted in for 50 yards, right now. It was sighted in for 100, but I needed the scope for another application.

usually work up loads at 25 yards and do a final sighting at 50 but take a few at a 100 to see where its hitting. Problem is my eyes are getting so old that its getting tough to get a good enough sight picture at a 100 yards for any kind of precision.

I would imagine you would be okay with 50-75 yards for sighting in your .44 even with a scope.

After you get used to this gun at 25 yards you can start shooting at longer distances. When you can NOT put all your shots into an 8" paper plate, you are to far away. Back up to the point that all your shots hit the plate and practice A LOT. Revolvers seem to require much more practice to remain accurate with. You will discover just where your limits are. When shooting at an animal try to find a rest. Practice shooting from field position, you will not have a benchrest in the field.

I have my SBH Hunter w/4 x 32 scope sighted at 50 yrds.I practice shooting w/ my shooting stick. One thing to be noted is the weight of the revolver after you scope it.I like my Simmons Pro Hunter,BUT the total weight of rig is very heavy. You might want to consider what scope you are going to use.......Rick

Howdy : I wondered the same thing, and decided I would sight in at 25 or 30... move to 50 and adjust... then see where it drops to at 100 when scoped.. with Irons, I cannot see well enough to group very well at 100 so I am trying to recognize what 50 and 70 yards look like and will take JHalcott's suggestion of shooting 8 inch plates till I cannot keep all in the circle then back off til I can.
be sure you go back to 25 and 35 so you know where it is going to pass at all distances... I have seen the difference between high mounted optics and low mounted ones...

50 to 75 yards depending on which caliber I'm using for deer, I look at the bullets path out to 125 yards. I set it up so a center mass hold will but a bullet in the chest cavity out to that range. For squirrel/rabbit I zero for 30 yards.

With a 250 grain bullet coming out at 1230 fps, sighting in at 100 yards keeps you within 3.5" out to 125 yards.  That is how I keep it simple.
