Your friend gave you some bad advice as he does not know 45 calibers very well. a 45/70 or a 458 shoots a .458 bullet these are rifle cartridges though the 45/70 is chambered for some pistols like the Contenders, Encores, and others. Most 45 pistol bullets are sized .451 to .452.

Now they make 45 LC barrels that are made to shoot 45lC and 410 shotshells in various Pistols including the TC Contenders and Encores. Tarus also makes a 45/410 pistol and various derringers are also made to shoot 45/410. Now these are made for a 410 to chamber in the 45 barrel I do not know if it can work the other way around a 45 in a 410 just due to how it fits in the chamber. The Base dimentions are simular that is why they make the switch caliber guns.  If the 45 does fit your snake charmer chamber it and fits on the rim ok it would be ok to shoot but not very accurate due to no rifleing in the snake charmer barrel at least the ones I seen did not have any. I would think a 410 slug would do you just as well.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.
