For all of us who are working and could not hit the woods the first week....it sure would be nice to get a motivational update.......( with pictures)....for all of yall who are out and about in the great outdoors.  Dreamin of backstraps........everyone stay safe, and shoot straight.....

I shot a nice die with my daughter during the regular season.  I have more pics of the kids deer in the thread about the youth hunt.  Gonna still try and get my daughter to drop the hammer on one this year while I proud hunt for horns now.  It's been a pretty good season for our family!

I shot a 9 pointer on Monday morning and my stepson bagged a 6 pointer Wednesday afternoon. He is 15 and this is his first buck. The nine pointer had both of his brow tines broken and the six pointer was a 4x2.

Wife and I both got does on opening day.  We have only been out sporadically sense then.  We still have our any deer tags to fill and will probably go to family land in Wayne county this weekend as the number of yahoos  (both local and from the city) is unbelievable around here on the weekends.  By Sunday the ones that have not been successful will be parading up and down the roads desperately wanting to shoot something, somehow.  I talked to conservation agent and they think they will set up the' mechanical deer' in our area.  I can only hope that they do it.  Maybe they can 'fill their tags' with road hunters.

Looks like some folks are having good luck......congrats to all, and especially the kids , and first time shooters.....glad to see the next generation seems to be learning things the right way .    As for the mechanical deer......I think that is GREAT news RangerJ.......and yes, there will be "2 legged tags " filled with that critter out there.   Hope they catch a bunch of them ...and actually DO something about it.    Best of luck, and let us hear how that works out.......

Tried my luck on Sunday at a ground blind my son and I had made weeks before.....he opted to Duck Hunt....so I ventured out alone....only to see blaze orange ...IN MY GROUND BLIND !!!!!!!   Could not believe it........but then again....sure I could....like a "cowbird".....a species too lazy to build something of their own...they simply occupy that of another................I did not confront the guy.......figured I had already been in his crosshiars, or at the end of his binoculars....since I had to cross open ground to get there....so my luck continues with deer hunting in Missouri .........even though I live in a semi-deer-less sparsely inhabited place....when it comes to rifle season.....every fence row and patch of woods seems occupied....permission or not........

Well, I just killed me a dandy buck.  He is the biggest buck I have killed so far.  220lbs on the hoof.  Pretty good spread.  I'd call him a 10 point even though a couple of his points are a bit small.  He also has a couple additional points near the bases.  Dont matter to me what he is labeled as cause he is my best buck so far!  Just wish my daughter could have been out there with me this morning.  She aint done hunting yet though so maybe she can top her old man!  Pics and story to follow later on!

A few more pics.  I dont know much about scoring them but he measured 12in tip to tip spread and at his widest inside spread he is 16 3/4in.

Sorry i havent got a chance to post up in a while. I have just been in and out checking posts. Glad to see you guys are getting some killed. I have been busy as a cat covering up crap. I was out of town bow hunting for 6 days . Then i got in town friday night before rifle season. I stuck several deer up north bowhunting and had alot of trouble finding them cause it was just so dang thick. But i killed the biggest doe i have ever killed while i was up there. And then i didnt see anything opening morning of rifle season. Got busy and didnt get a chance to hunt again till Monday evening. And i killed my biggest buck to date. Hes not huge but hes a real good 9 point for down here. He only had a 14 inch inside spread but had alot of mass and was really tall . He teaped out about 127. I forgot to get harvest pics until i was walkin to the truck to haul the head to the taxidermist for a european mount. My wife accidentally deleted the pic off the computer so ill get it uploaded in a bit.

I filled my last tag today with what was either a small deer or a large poodle. :D  Actually it was a button buck.  He may have been small but he was tough.  I was shooting my Handi 44/70 this time with 300 gr laser cast over trapdoor 2400 loads.  I shot the deer at about 60 yards and he went right down but as I started to climb down from the stand he got back up and started to walk off.  I gave him a second round and he went down to stay that time.  I guess this means I get to sleep late tomorrow morning.
