Tarus 410 Judge/Brass shells
« on: September 12, 2007, 07:05:11 AM »
 ???
I want to play with the 410 brass shells that are available.  I bought a box of 25, they look good.

BUT :-\ they will NOT chamber.  The "base" of the shell is a little to big.  I think if I were to drive the shell into the chamber it would size down  but I don't want to do this  I may never get them out again..

I don't want to by a complete reloading outfit for the 410  as I just want see what I can do with this fun gun.
I have not been able to find a Lee loader for the 410, the hand held kit that used a hammer and a powder measure,     maybe they were never made.

Is there a inexpensive way to just resize the brass shell so I can fire them in the chambers and fire form them.

I want to play with .40 caliber lead balls  and and slugs  and maybe .430 soft bullets.

Any help would be much appreciated.

they need to be re-sized , check Lee Reloading tools they may have one of those small kits for around 30 bucks ! ballistic products may have a tool also !
if by chance you were referring to the rim ? try sanding it a little bit !
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Thanks for the response.  It is not the rim that need resized it is the head just ahead of the rim.
Lee does not make a Classic Lee Loader in 410 >:(.
I just need to reduce the diameter the the Brass shell a little so i can chamber them and fire form them.

i don't have access to old BP loading books but a sizing die for one of the old 45 something rounds might FL size the case ! another option might be to get a shop to make you something to size it ,  get a gunsmith to cut a chamber in a piece of old bbl stock , use a wood hammer to knock the case in and a wood dowel to knock it out like the old lee loader
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Find and old cheap .45 caliber die, and just hack saw off the top.  It wont decap anything, but you could probably find and old on of those for ten bucks without any problem.  Just file it well after you hacksaw it, and then you can put however long of a casing you want through it.

A long nail and a hammer will take care of that decapping problem.

They used to, I have one. If you want one keep checking at gun shows.

I would think that once you had them sized they would be fine since you will be shooting them in the same gun.  There must be a skeet shooter who shoots 410s in your area who could size them for you.
