A Handi Pumpkin Gun!
« on: November 26, 2007, 02:59:31 AM »
I am a member of the Northeast Shooters Forum and Saturday 11/24 was our annual pumpkin shoot at the Shirley Rod & Gun Club in Shirley, MA. The main rifle that I shot was my NEF Handi Rifle in .45-70 with a Burris 2-7X scope. I had been working up some loads for the occasion and it turned out that the best pumpkin blower upper was a 405 gr. Rem jsp being pushed by 44 grs. of Reloder 7. This round just exploded pumpkins. I had made up another batch that I thought would be the king, but it just punched holes in the little orange devils. I picked up a box of wickedly expensive Hornady 500 gr. jsp and loaded it up with 50 grs of IMR 3031, this was a monster of a round. Would probably be good for Grizzly, but was a bit too much for pumpkins. At the end of the day I had put 160 rds through the Handi and my body felt like it. I still had 10 rds left when I stopped due to profuse bleeding from my trigger finger. I am still a bit sore today/ LOL!

As a side note we had close to 90 folks show up and a safe and fun day was had by all.
