Looking for shooters that have been using thier GLOCKS, in any form of combat shooting (target type,or other). Interested in how some of the MODEL 32,33,27,and 29 doing in this form. Also cant ferget the model 30 either. King

Well, whatya want to know? I not only shoot, and have carried Model 27's, but instruct Police Officers. For me, I don't like'em. They are short in the grip, hard on the hands, not only in firing, but pinching the hand on magazine changes. They are easy to carry and sexy, and that's about it. And of course, they are Super Glock Reliable. The one we bought for our investigator was traded for MODEL 23, FIRST RANGE DAY! Just my two cents...

Hi JeffG. YUP. kinda looking for that type of info. My hand is kinda small(when I wore surgical gloves they were a size 7 1/2 ),and i was looking for the amount of comfort in shooting the subs in rapid fire. The size does nor really bother me in recoil,but I have experianced the problem with inserting the mag,and geting pinched. I have noticed that most of our guys that are carring them are leaning to the extended mags as well. I think it aids for better control,but it also takes away from being able to conceal it as well. I have had a few of the rookies over in the last couple of weeks asking about that. I have been telling them that I thought they should shoot it first,and them atempt to fix the problem,if there is one in the first place. Appreciate the info. King

On the main carry mag for my G27 I have one of those little plastic gizmos that attach to the bottom of the mag to give a place for your little finger. Sure makes a world of difference in firing it.

The Georgia Department of Corrections has allowed Probation Officers to purchase a Glock 27 as a back-up to the issue Glock 23. I have personally owned two 27's and with a finger extension there is no problem with control as well as the 23 and 22's mags will also fit the 27. The Georgia State Patrol issues Troopers as a back-up the Glock 27 also.

Subcompacts:

G26 - 9mm

I am considering a sub compact Glock as an alternative to a snubie revolver. This post contains some good information. The larger calibers must be a handful in the recoil department.

I shoot a g-27 in the back up gun class in IDPA , works ok , i use the same extension i think GB uses , makes a 27 feel like a 23 as far as grip ! I have not found it to shoot as accurate as a 23 !

Never much got the point of extenders. I have several mags for my subcompacts with them, but have found them pointless.

Point being, most of us want subcompacts for concealed carry. Usually, the longer the grip, the harder to conceal. Slide length is usually not an issue, especially if you use an inside the waist holster.

So why get a subcompact, put on an extender, thus making the grip basically as big as a compact's grip, but still have the shorter slide... giving you a shorter sight radius... and a shorter barrel... giving you less (but negligable) velocity?

Why not just get a compact?

That way you can go which ever way your dress or needs dictate ?

I do. I have 2 subcompacts. The G26 and the G27.

I have a couple mags with them and a couple of mags without. I carry my G27 as a backup to my G22 when I am on duty. I carry it with the regular 9 round mag.

When I don't worry about concealment, I usually just carry a full sized pistol, or a compact. The subcompacts don't go out with me (concealed) much except for the summer time.

I carry my G20 hunting/hiking etc. Been carrying my G23 concealed here lately.

You said on duty !
As a private citizen we have to worry about printing more than a LEO . yet like the extra control of the extension when we can use it !
In IDPA the G-23 can't be used in BUG matches but the G-27 can and the extension gives the G-27 a grip close to the G-23 and more control .

Certainly did say on duty. I don't want anyone to know where my G27 is at all. I would not be able to control 2 guns if someone were to fight me for them.

I do carry off duty, and conceal off duty a good bit of the time, just like everyone else.

I see what you mean about the rules of the IDPA matches.

I'm not very familiar with it, I've always wanted to compete, but never had the chance.

Exactly!!
Most that find the "Subcompacts" too small for their hands, find the "Compacts" work much better

I guess until you have a need you can't see a justification ! I have large hands and find the 27 JUST workable but alot easier to hide ( FITS IN FRONT POCKET ) where 23 is stretching it ( the pocket ) and harder to draw and it prints more .

Don't know what kind of pants you wear, but the G27 would look a tad noticeable in my pocket!

I usually just wear it on my hip, or my ankle. On duty it is on the side of my vest.

I think maybe glock out thought most of us again on this issue. Carrying concealed is the idea for the subcompact and they are not hard to hide with the right clothing. As far as control, that comes down mostly to the man behind the trigger. In a case where it was needed, what kind of distance are you shooting. I am sure GSD knows stats as well as anyone about how close most shooting situations take place in. All I am saying is I wouldn't take any subcompact pistol out to the range to shoot 25+ yards as a plan for why I bought the gun. In case you do want to do that or use it in competition, Glock gave us an extension. Damn they're good!! I want to the thing unknown, keep suprise on my side, and if the day ever came to use it I am not taking a crack long shot that I don't have complete confidence in.

I really like the 29. It kicks less then you'd think and is very accurate. The 10mm is a heck of a round!

I like my 27...Especially with the grip extender...I like my 23 as bell, but I can conceal the 27 better...Even with the extender. I have no issues controlling the recoil with either the 27 or the 23...But, truth be told, I enjoy shooting my issue G22 more. The 27 is not intended to be a long range shooter and I don't believe that I have ever shot it further than 20 yards (the furthest one can shoot at my dept's range).

I've been carrying a Glock 27 that I bought the first year that they were produced. I have fed everything in it, and never had one malfunction. I don't carry it with the grip extender, since it is easier to conceal without it, but it does make a big difference in shooting. I prefer any of the sub compact Glocks to a snubbie revolver, but that just me. I've never heard of one that didn't perform well. They are not bullseye guns, but mine is plenty accurate and plenty powerful for me.

I think they were referring to the type of extender that only extends the front edge of the mag for finger placement...it doesn't extend the rear of the mag, which is where you would run into a printing problem.

I have carried my Glock 27 almost daily since I bought it (the first year it was introduced, whenever that was). Yeah, I have big hands, and it is not as comfortable to shoot as a larger frame gun. However, it does offer great concealablility, plenty of firepower, and I have NEVER had one malfunction with the gun in over 8,000 rounds of practice. It ain't pretty, but I don't worry about the finish when it is riding in next to my sweaty body all summer like I would if it were my custom blued 1911. I have many handguns, but I trust my life, and my family's to my Glocks

I have a G27 with 3 mags. One normal, one with the Pierce +1 floor plate for my pinky and one with the GAP plate. The G27 is controllable but I like shooting my G19 more.

I have used a 26 a lot a few yrs ago for IDPA . I had not in a while and brought it back out at our last IDPA match.

When I was shooting it all the time it would depend on how I buggered up to see if I did better with it or the other Glock I was shooting. Same thing this last match. Only about a second apart and I had not shot it for a while.

I have borrowed a friends 27 and shot it in a side match. Great pistol as well. I know many who use the baby Glocks in verus flavors. they work. I call them little big guns or big little guns.

Only thing you have to watch out for is making sure you don't trap the mag with the meat of your hand and you don't get your off hand in front of the muzzle.

Truely amazed when I first got mine and suprised a few of our newer members at our last match.

Easy not to get your hand pinched. The short grip is only odd - not a disadvantage and it is only odd the first few times you shoot them. Just forget about it and it stops being a bother.

I have not shot the 29 but the 30, 33, 27, and 26 are real nice with the 33 being worst but only because one has to be.
