Muzzle Brake vs. Magna Port?
« on: December 02, 2007, 12:31:10 PM »
I think that a brake with many larger holes - grooves - slots would do a better job than 2 or 4 slot Magnaports?  Would the Magnaport be quieter? I am guessing the more & larger the vent openings the better the effectivness but also the most loud? Is this thinking correct?

I have had both and a good brake is much better in my opinion.
Darrell Holland's Quick Discharge or Shawn Carlock's Defensive Edge are two great solid bottom baffle style brakes.  Solid bottom brakes are great if you will be doing shooting from the prone position.
If you want a full profile brake the Vais is my favorite.  I have all three.

It depends alot on the brake, but I find them more efficient then the porting.  But the porting has always looked cleaner....

Now if you port the barrel to have the same amount of surface area as the brake....then it would be just as effective, but might consume alot more barrel then would be practical?
