Help - Barrel/Frame Pin Stuck
« on: November 29, 2007, 09:42:28 AM »
I was using my contender on monday and tuesday this week in PA for deer season. I went to disassemble it last night to thoroughly clean it up before this weekend, however I could not remove the pin holding the barrel in place. I guess from all of the rain on monday, that it might have gotten dirty or something and it wont budge. My blued frame is in excellent condition (no rust anywhere) and I had a stainless 14" super 44 mag barrel on it. In the past, the pin has always been quite easy to remove but I can only get it to budge about 1mm either way. The action still works fine and the barrel hinges perfectly, so I am not quite sure where it is catching. Like I said, it happened last night and I didnt fool with it too much. I was waiting to see what suggestions you all had before I started spraying wd40 and using more force to get the pin out. Help would be appreciated - thanks

I would take a dowel and something to tap it with and tap it out.  I cannot see how you could hurt anything and then you would be able to see what the problem is.

Thanks Long,
That is exactly what I did when I got home and it worked. It appears that the inside of the barrel (where the pin inserts) rusted - surface rust. I was surprised since it was less than 48hrs since it had rained and that the barrel is stainless. I guess I will have to take the barrel off sooner next time. Thanks
