Seating Gameking ???
« on: December 04, 2007, 01:06:11 PM »
I was seating some 150g gamekings in 308 and it was shaving some of the jacket off.
I debured the inside of the case mouth and it still did it but not as bad.
Later I tried some flat base 110g sp and they barely did it at all.
Just wanted to know if I'm missing something?
Will this hurt anything when fired?
How is the best way to correct this problem?
These are the first Sierra bullets I've ever tried.

Did you use new brass or resized fired brass?

Are you using a bench-mounted press and dies or a handloader unit like the Lee Loader?  If the Lee Loader, some minor bullet shaving is quite normal because there is no neck expanding stage.

If using a bench press and dies, it's important to use the expander ball during full-length resizing of the cases.  It's nominally 0.307" diameter, but a slightly small expander combined with slightly oversized bullets can cause the bullet shaving you described.  It's nothing to worry about unless you experience difficulty chambering your loaded cartridges.
