my 243 and 30-06 both like varget powder.  42gr varget topped by a 58gr v-max shoots just over an inch at 200.  out of my savage 243.  I  started with the lee hand press and found it to be very user friendly and inexpensive.  Bought lee collet dies and love them, just dont crimp if you dont have to, I have always got better groups that way.

As for powder I would recommend 4831, H or IMR. As for the Hand Loaders your speaking of they are in my opinion the best thing Lee makes, I`m not a Lee fan. You will not get match grade ammo, but it should be as good as factory. If your only going to load a hundred round a year or so it will work fine even if you use the Lee powder dippers. I would recomand you spend the money for a scales to check the powder charges each time you get a new can of powder, at minimum.

pick a bullet , Speer , Nosler etc. then get a manual from that company . See what powder will do both . if ya pick different bullet companies get both books . I suggest this since you will need a recipe and you might as well pick one then buy your component's to match . Some powders are not listed by all bullet companies so why buy a powder that the bullet you want has no recipe listed .
Since you are just starting , DO NOT STRAY FROM THE LISTED RECIPE  ! and only use imfo. in the book !
learn the rules before you substitute anything !
good luck it is a good skill to learn !
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

IMR 4350.  A Lee Loader is quite close to the tools the Bench rest shooters have used.  And you can do some good work with them.  I'd make my next purchase a Lee Auto Prime and then a middle priced balance beam scale.  This will give you more versatility in your load development and the Lee Auto Prime will keep your primer seating from being too exciting. :D

The advantage of a good manual is the how to information.

H4350 or IMR 4350 will work.
