Difference between R.E.A.L bullets and minnie bullets?
« on: June 28, 2003, 08:33:25 AM »
What is the difference in the two and where can I get bullets or molds for a .58.  I am told that the 1863 Springfeild was designed for the minne balls, and they are similar to a hollow base shotgun slug.  Any suggestions?

R.E.A.L. bullets are "rifling engaged at loading" and are flat based.  Minnies can either engage in similar fashion or simply obturate the bore when ignition occurs - but are hollow based .  Try looking at natchezss.com or midwayarms.com for your molds.  Both should carry molds of either style for your rifle.  Lee makes the REALs and minnie ball molds.

Or get them direct from http://www.leeprecision.com/catalog/browse.cgi?1007996282.2837=blackpow.html where the pics can do the talkin'.  :)
