Hello every one!
« on: November 30, 2007, 06:53:42 AM »
Hi everyone, I have been lurking around here for a while, after I re-discovered the joy of shooting my .223 handi this summer…I say rediscover, because when I first got it, I could not get consistent accuracy from the gun.  I tried lots of different factor ammo, and could at best get 3-4” groups with lots of flyers; ran maybe 200 rounds through it.  But since I bought it for a coyote gun, I decided to hang on to it, sine that accuracy was good enough for ‘yotes.  Well, it sat in the gun cabinet for quite a while and I decided to take it out to the range to give it another try.  I ran 2 more boxes of ammo through it, and all of sudden, (this is the weird part) the gun started shooting like a champ; I kept the next 20 rounds in 2” at 100 yards with no flyers.  I don’t know if the barrel finally came in, or what, but she is now a shooter.

Any way the only problem I have with these guns is the scope base.  I not impressed with the amount of flex in the factory base.  I would like something more stable.  I have a Bushnell 4-12 x 40 on her, and wondered what you guys recommended for a premium scope base for these guns…Thanks!

-John

Oh by the way, now that she started shooting well, I am defiantly going to send in for a couple of new barrels as soon as varmint hunting season ends.  I’m thinking 45-70 and 20 gauge heavy slug barrel for deer, and 25-06 for longer range shooting at the gun club.

Here’s a pic!

Welcome to GBO! Read the FAQs and Help sticky, there's info on all scope mounts available and accuracy tips that would have made your .223 experience a bit sweeter.  ;)

Not a lot of difference in them they're all aluminum, the H&R is as good as the others IMO, you can bed the unsupported end if you want, but it's not necessary IMO. I've got about forty H&Rs, have never had a problem with them, no complaints on em here either. ;)

Johngoboom:

Very nice looking rifle. Glad to read all is finally going well.  The Camo-laminated stock set looks nice.

Each of the barrel caliber/gauge you mention would be good choices for your frame.

Enjoy.     ;)

Thanks Evoc One...I like the look of the stock, and it has the NEF limited edition medallion pressed into it.  I don't know if it will make the gun worth more in the long run, as I think they made a ton of these, but hey it looks nice, and it didn't cost all that much more.

I just really wish I would have found this site before I ran 200+ rounds through it with terrible results. :)
