Just ordered me a .280
« on: November 30, 2007, 10:54:26 AM »
'95 RMEF Commerative Ultra to boot.

I suppose I should call my dealer to let him know. ;D

Merry Christmas to me!

I may even be able to slap a scope on and buy :P some factory ammo :P in time for the last weekend of elk season.

Anybody care to post pics of theirs for me to ogle while I wait for the BBTT to show up.

Thanks.

Great caliber. Nearly as good as the 7MM Mag. It is only a couple hundred feet per second slower. I had a 280 barrel and ended up selling it before I shot it. Wish I had not. Good luck with it. Dale

Congrats, lots of pics in the "let's see some Handis" FAQs thread, 4 pages of em to be exact!! Be aware that H&R won't fit any high pressure barrel to that frame, including another .280 barrel, due to the weaker heat treating.  :-\

Congratulations!      :)

You will like the .280. Its a fine caliber and a good one in the NEF/H&R.

Having the RMEF version is the icing on the cake.    ;)

Unfortunately, ammo is will be at a premium these days.  Time to reload!   ;D

Enjoy!

Seeing this one advertised as a .280 Ultra, I knew going in that it was an older model, but I had no idea it was the RMEF Commerative.  That's why I asked for the S/N prefix early on.  I may never add another barrel to this one.  If I do it would probably be .223 even though I have .30/30 & .204 dies.

Being the RMEF edition really is icing.  I feel like I'm bringing this one "Home" for its intended application.

I do need to get dies & brass.  I already have a hefty supply of 7mm bullets.

Getting her ready for hunting by next weekend isn't very realistic.  It would be a cobbled together setup and getting some quality range time would be nigh on impossible.  I already know what glass I want to top her with.  That will have to wait 'till next year.

I have one of the 280 RMEF and a .223 barrel for it.  Unfortunately it is at my folks in MT now waiting for next antelope season.  It shoots great with rem factory ammo.

To heck with the 7mm Mag.  The 280 does it all.  The beauty is that you have probably the biggest selection of high BC bullets out there.  I would love to have one.  You can load it up to 7 Mag or down to youth load 7-08's.

The RMEF is a nice looking rifle too.

bluebayou,

Thanks.  My thoughts exactly!  I've been wanting a .280 for many more years than I've been interested in Handis.    I've been scouring pawn shops and new & used racks looking for a .280 Handi knowing all the while that my favorite dealer could have me one within a week.  Finding an RMEF has just been a pie in the sky fantasy.

I can't help believing the 26" tube will really let the .280 show its stuff.

I still need to get some flowers before I break it to SWMBO. :)

Wish me luck!
