  I was raised with a Remington Mohawk 600 in .243. They are beautiful little carbines. 30 deer to its credit. And what is funny, that is with a 4x Tasco bought at K-Mart around 1980 and has never had to be re-sighted!!!! Best $14 my dad ever spent   (;

I finally found the post and the picture is gone. I like to think of it as "so ugly it's interesting". It was some kind of bolt action and the entire gun and stock were engraved in some kind of Arabic motif. Man I wish I could find a picture of it. I now have a quest.

Geez :P     Ugly they are!  People should not design anything after a bottle, or case, of Vodka. On the other hand, I read where Eddie Van Halen never played a show or recorded an album sober until 1995.....to each his own....but, MAN, those are some ugly firearms!!!!

Hmmm and Geoff Cooper had a hand in their design too! I suggest you forget drastic plastic and use real wood and take a look at the Steyr's with proper stocks not some cast off remould bumper  ::). Trouble is in firearms there are lots of god awful lookign designs out there!

Just look at the Contender :o The AK47 wins no beauty contests either.

I have an old 1964 American gun magazine in which theyr are singing the praises of the New  up dated Model 70 Winchester and man Oh man that has one ugly stock on it! poor designed pressed in chequering.

I know and it explains a lot! The stock could have been made from compressed beaver droppings and yet people would have still bought it on Jeff Cooper's recommendation. The man was like a cult leader for weak minded gun nuts.

I don't know how far back you want to go but the Frenchies put out some of the ugliest designs (IMO) ever.  such as:
Berthier 1890 cavalry or 1916 musketoon.   If I could figure out how to paste/post images here I would.   Or how about the little rifles used in the original "Planet of the Apes".   Some movie prop guy took our beloved M-1 Carbine and "dressed it up" with an ugly chunk of wood.

Cooper never impressed me. Many members on this board impress me much more with better knowledge.
Some of the ugliest rifles have to be the Mosin Nagants. They must not have showed them to the Tsar before completing. I love collecting them and shooting them, and they make great deer guns, but pretty they ain't, IMO.

Krochus, its obvious you've never shot a Steyr.  Ugly they are, but accurate and extremely well thought out and comfortable to shoot.  Form follows function.  By the way Steyr-Mannlicher makes some incredibly beautiful rifles.

I'm with SDS!  There was a French bolt action I saw at the gun shop one time.  It was a MAS but I can't remember the number.
I know the Rem 600 can shoot but that ventalated rib :P

On the Model 600, the ribbed barrel was rare, mine does not have it. I think you mean the 660, where it was standard.

NOPE!
The Rem M-600 has a vent rib.
The Rem M-600 Mohawk doesn't have a vent rib.

The same could be said for a whole plethora of other firearms that aren't ugly. Excluding the rifle below :o

 Did someone say MAS36

from my personal collection, about as ugly as they come

You're right. I wasn't even aware that there were two versions of the 600. I know mine is a Mohawk, guess I assumed they all were. Thanks!

Yep... my Steyr ProHunter ain't the most classically pretty rifle but it shoots pretty darn good.  The bolt is smooth and everything works the way it is supposed to.  It has fully adjustable iron sights and a single stage set trigger.  Can't find those options on any American rifle for the $640 I paid for it.  I might sell it off just because I don't REALLY need it but then I don't really need three .45-70's either.  Guess I'll keep it...
