H & R Find
« on: December 31, 2007, 11:43:29 AM »
One of the wife's friends called this morning and told her there was a pistol for sale at an estate sale for $50.  It wasn't advertised, and there had been no action on the gun when I showed up at about 10AM.  I waltzed around, and finally made it to the garage where the gun was located, I picked it up, looked it over and without to much concern ask, "what is the bottom price on this Saturday night special?"  The lady said they are asking $50. but they might take less if you make a cash offer, I carried the gun to the lady that was taking the money, dropped two twenties on the table and ask it that would buy the gun, she wrote me a receipt.

The find, a like new 999 Sportsman, complete with box and papers and a box and half of Winchester Western .22 long rifle ammo.  Another lady told me that her uncle had bought the gun new, and that it had only been fired on one occasion, and then just the number of times of missing ammo from the box.  I will probably fire it, but just to see how it shoots, then it will find a home in the safe.

Congrats on that one! It must have been kinda tough to act casual and not overly eager!  ;D  If it was me I'd probably have blown it and they'd have seen the gleam in my eye.  ;)

Congratulations on a fine pistol at an incredible price!  I'd be happy to find one like that for $100!  Shoot that gun and enjoy it, I have a wonderful time with mine.  It's one of my favorite .22s and I often use it at bowling pin matches for fun.  44 Man
