Barrel Bending

Bob,
A cheaper device for bending shotgun barrels can be made with scrap wood and a large "C" clamp. I have a 10" C clamp, and use a piece of 1/4 X 3" angle as a backing for the C clamp. Just stack up scrap plywood blocks to achieve the distance between the barrel and the angle iron. Lay it out flat on the bench, to make it easy to work with. Be sure to use a piece of 1X4 about 6" long, where the C clamp hits the barrel, to spread out the pressure, and make a more gentle bend. A very shallow V groove or rabbet cut makes it easy to hold it in place on the barrel. Remember, you're talking thousandths here.>>>>>>>>>>Bug

I've never adjusted the point of impact by bending the barrel but have straightened a few.  I use a hydraulic shop press and oak blocks.  Steel plate scraps are used as shims between the press and the oak blocks.  Have straightened some really bad looking barrels.  Have one in the shop now I've been putting off. It an unsingle that was (seems so anyway) run over by a car or truck.  The receiver tangs were badly bent and the barrel was bent in at least 2 major places.  Let us know what you do and how it works out!  Thanks from the gunnut69
