rem 700 inline

i have been thinking about a in line rifle lately and like the looks of the rem 700 and the ruger 77. i think both rifles have been discontinued but ive seen them used here and there? anybody have any experience with these guns? im looking for a rifle that will shoot 150 yrds or so with decent accuracy and is easily scoped.did the rem ever come in a wood stock? any advice on these guns would be appreciated.thanks

I have two of the Rem 700ml's... I really do like mine of course they are not considered to be the modern inline of today but I am hunting with one this month vs my Omega or White.

There are a couple of minor problems with them but nothing that can fixed pretty easy.  If you can come up with a good buy on one I would not be afraid of it....

I have a Remington 700ML and I wouldn't trade it for anything...it's off to get dipped in Predator camo the first of the year. Cleaning is kinda a pain though. I would recommend one.

what minor problems do they have? can you easily take the barrel off the stock for cleaning? with my traditional rifle i have now, i just pull the barrel off and dunk it in a bucket of soapy water while running a patch up and down the barrel.so cleaning it takes about 5 min.is the rem going to be harder to clean thoroughly?what are you guys useing for powder and bullets?

I get a fair amount of blow back through the bolt from 209 primers in mine. It doesn't bother me but some guys want a m/l they can clean in 2 seconds. It takes me 20 mins to clean it...no big deal. My best load out of this has been 3 pyro pellets a .44 240 XTP and a Knight hi pressure sabot. This load has dropped every deer in its tracks from 5yds to 212yds. I would NEVER get rid of this gun.

The two major but minor problems...

If you are using the Remington 209 conversion kit - you are going to get a lot of blowback - I would recommend you get the Canadian conversion kit from Cabelas - it is a bunch cleaner

Second - you must clean the bolt internally the blowback will eat up the hammer spring - not a big deal either if you get a Remington bolt tool - just twist the bolt apart and clean the spring...

The "spring" the spring that comes stock in the Remington bolt is a #24 and will weaken in short time... it will continue to set off 209's but will drop the ball on #11 caps... I ordered stronger springs from Brownells and replaced both of mine...

Two screws hold the barreled action in the stock - then it lifts out - easy....

It has Walker adjustable trigger and can be easily adjusted if you are mechanical.... just search on the net for "adjusting the walker trigger" or let me know and I will send you a copy....  Be careful adjusting the trigger if you choose to try if you do not do it correctly - it is possible to set the gun off be moving the safety from safe to fire... I have never seen it happen but it was a complaint some time back.

I also have two Remington 700ML's. One is a 54 cal, loves about any thing you can stuff down the barrel and 100gr. T7. It also has the canadian 209 kit. Dirty but not like the Remington 209 a friend has.
Even with the 209 kit you have to disassemble the bolt and clean it every time.
I bought the tool at Gander Mountian.



My other one is a 50 cal. I bought it used a couple years ago. There was nothing on the market then that I liked. It likes about any thing stuffed down the muzzle with 80gr. T7.

I like to fondel my guns so takeing the time to clean them is no big deal.
Also Love how easy it was to adjust the trigger to 3 pounds with no creep. Course I had pratiac on my 8 center fire Remington 700's.


I have a friend with a Rugar 77/50 ML he likes really well too.

My first In line was a 700. It was a pain to clean and I used no 209 conversion I left it as #11. Before it I only messed with the traditional muzzle loaders. I am going to get another rem 700 ml someday.
