Too many people looking to by barrels..caution..?
« on: June 22, 2003, 02:52:40 PM »
What does everyone else think?  Lately the classifieds, we are getting ads from brand new members that just want to buy barrels, ANY BARRELS.  It just dont feel right with me.  I usually look at the users post history, and get a better feel.  I just cant bring myself to send my barrel to somebody that has just joined today.  Hell, I can barely bring myself to send a barrel to the oldest member on here, but I am getting better.

thats kinda interesting didnt know there was a time limit on being a fellow shooter glad i had a barrel trade that went well some of us just kinda find the place and then figure out its about contenders i had a 357max barrel that to me was pretty much junk even though it was a perfect barrel because i dont handload luckily on trader forum i was able to trade it for 223 we were both happy so i have met some nice people here that give new members a chance new or not were mostly just as much into t/c as you are this is neatest place on net thanks greybeard

well i dont think that robert is trying to snub new members (for we all start out as such)  but more over concerned about doing business with people that he isnt familiar with.   i have never met robert but know somewhat about him through following his posts.   after a while,  what you see come out in some people makes you either trust them or not.   you definately get a feel for folks around here after a while.   i would trade with the right person that was new here;  but i would be lying if a said i wouldnt be more comfortable doing business with those that have established their reputation as good folk.   just a point of veiw i guess.

(6/22/03)  Paranoia will destroy you.  I have both bought & sold things on GBO with excellent results.  Selling something is easy, they send you a M.O & you send them the merchandise.  Someone has something you want, you send them a M.O & they send you the merchandise.  GBO is like a small community, IF YOU RIP SOMEONE OFF, IT WILL SPREAD LIKE WILDFIRE.  This all comes down to TRUST.  We should treat all GBO members all the same, until you show us your not worthy of our trust. One last thing, if you want to get mad about something, get mad about how some want to take away out 2nd Ammendmant rights (You know the RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS).  Take you anger out on those who want to deprive us all of our freedoms,   THINK ABOUT THAT WHEN YOU'RE CELEBRATING THE FOURTH OF JULY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It just seems like going to a yard sale, and the 'PRO' yard sale people show up and buy everything and leave a deposit and come pick up all their stuff later.  It seems to me that the classifieds are being scoured by businessmen trying to make a buck.  Especially lately that we have had multiple adds to by barrels regardless of calibre.  I stand by my post.  Members beware.  I am even more animate about it now especially since the sort of flames that have resulted from my post.  I have been here a long time, and I cant say that I have been the 'perfect' guest on G.B.'s site, (this IS G.B.'s site),  but if I feel like I need to pass on a warning when I smell trouble, I will do so, and you young whipper-snappers can just kiss my butt if you dont like it.  I could be wrong, but I could be right, but if someone is going to flame me for bringing it to my fellows attention, then I have absolutely no doubt that I am right.

P.S.  Mainer..if you are refering to the reply in the classifieds, that was refering to getting a G-2...you just do not understand the dry humor on here about the non-existence of the G-2. I was merely making a joke like everyone has on here that the G-2 is a myth.  I am very sorry if you mis-understood my reply to that post.  Hell, I still have not seen one, as far as Iam concerned it is STILL B.S.

Geez, Mainer, lighten up a bit!  All caps is yelling, and we don't need that.  I'm a relative newcomer to this list, but there can't be many out there who have been collecting/shooting Contenders longer than I, 'cause I bought one in the first year of production.  Still have it, and a bunch of others, like most folks who get this sickness.  No reason not to be polite, no matter how long/short a time a person has been at this.

Gentlemen -
Walk lightly with this thread, and loose the caps.   Should be enough said!

im not a dealer im a new member im just as much into t/c as you are robert and i have been a member all my life of shooting community all my life robert can stick his barrels wherever he wants to it dont bother me i have a trade going on right now that his opinion dont matter at all it will go fine without his help as far as getting mad i would have to care what he thinks to get mad and i agree the shooting community needs to stick together and get mad at ones trying to take our rights not a #@%$@#* that dont want to sell us a barrel the trading forum is a great place i love it   and if i have a barrel for sale and i do i will sell it to anyone on this forum because like was said in earlier post if you stiff someone it will be spread and there will probably only be one chance so im still happy with GB forum whan it says ROBERTS forum ill leave and not come back until then opinions are just like -------- everyone has one. thats my .02 im through ive been on this forum everday since i joined it is best place on net for shooters thanks G.B.                P.S. i will not be back into this argument kinda having a battle of wits with a unarmed person but just so us new comers will know how long do we need to be a member to be full fledge gun nuts that have a right to buy a barrel and who knows maybe robert can help Sarah Brady on her next bill we can all have a waiting period for a new barrel

My thoughts for new members;
When I bought my first Contender I wanted every caliber barrel that I "thought" would fun. Now on my second frame and to many barrels and lost money on each purchase I have gained a diferrent insight.
I have only so much time to handload, shoot targets and hunt. With that in mind I am selling and have sold off much of my equipment. I wish that I had read more posts and used a little more common sense in my purchases but I hope that the barrels that I have sold or traded are going to someone that will use them. I do not like something laying around and not getting used when there are so many people out there that will put them to good use.
The members on this forum have taught me a lot and I wouldn't purposely make a bad trade or sell something that isn't any good.
I do understand that you should use caution in anything but if you watch the posts for a little while you can see who is in it for a profit and who wants something to shoot.
This forum is very important to a lot of us!!
Show each other courtesy, read the posts and ask questions.
Don't let a flame from time to time turn you off of anyone hear, as we all have good and bad days, just as you.
Do not use all caps as it is a statement that you are upset about something.
Enjoy yourself and pratice good gun safety and you will be involved with T/C products for life.
(Just my 2 cents worth)

I think something has gone wrong here.  I don't post here much, but have been watching for some time, and on TC-L for years.

 1) Mainer got a new G2, that I have been waiting to get for years, and I would like to hear about it.  Pistol?  Rifle? What?

2) Rob made a joke, and Mainer missed it on the classified list, and got mad.  (he was kidding Mainer)

3) Now it is being debated about new members.  I have NEVER been burned by a TC person.  They are the best!  I often send barrels I have sold before I get the money (sent two this morning) because I TRUST TC shooters.  They, like me, put GREAT importance in their reputation and honesty.  Be suspicious of TC shooters, old or new, if you want, but you are wasting your time.

4) can we back up and ask Mainer to PLEASE tell us about the G2, including where he got it?? I want one/some of them, and want to know.

Thank you for your patience.

Lets hear some reports from this new G-2.  That was the whole point of my original post to Mainer.  Most of us gave up beleiving that it would ever really come out.  Now that it 'supposedly' IS out...I want to know 'what is wrong with it?'  Why did it take so many years longer to work out the bugs than first expected?  Does the gun shoot?  Does it remedy the little problems with the Contender?  How does it feel in your hand, etc, etc....

eastside and kreg i agree there is just something different about singleshot shooters if there wasnt we would all have clips i think t/c shooters are the finest lot of shooters it takes a special person to persue game with one round knowing you will not miss  and if you do miss it was all about pursuit anyway i agree there is a world of knowledge on this forum that you will not find in gun magazines with paid advertisers  i dont really mean to rock any boats but just because i am new i am just as honorable as anyone here when i give my word it is with honor dont mean to step on anyones toes but no need to step on any new peoples either i dont know anything about G2 dont care i am happy with old style all in all T/C owners are the most helpful, mostly polite people in firearm community just my .02  sorry to step on any toes lets go on with life and all be friends :toast: and robert i am even sorry if i took yours wrong we are all on the same side or should be

G2? Whatzat? Errybody knows it is just a figment of Dan Johnson's imagination. Sorry Dan but dang it you were the first to hold one so you get named here. Glad they are finally a reality even tho I admit to being one of the prime doubters of it ever seeing light of day.

I just read on another forum of a fellow that picked up his new G-2 Frame, and none of his existing barrels will lock up on it. When he SLAMMED the barrel shut so it finally locked up he said he almost couldn't get it to open again. He also reported that it was going back to the factory asap.

Makes me really glad I just picked up a new Contender Frame a month ago to add to the two I already had.

I have a feeling that IF/WHEN we get to see the G2 in numbers that the same old crap that has been the problem with T/C upgrades all along will be here also. All you hear is that the old barrels WILL fit with no mods, well I don't know about the rest of you but I have been there and done that till I'm sick of it. I'll just keep watching for all those shooters that just have to have "new/better and buy up all the "old" T/C frames I can get my sticky hands on. I figure that there are enough "old" frames and barrels to keep me happy for the rest of my shooting days....umm...ahhh OH MY    maybe there isn't!!!!
