Old Weaver Qwik-Point sight from the early 1970s
« on: December 20, 2007, 06:59:47 AM »
Hi all,

I am having a pistol match in the near future.  It's any sight so I am thinking of putting a red dot on my Ruger MK II Target.  I would normally shoot regular sights but this match is Odd hand at 15 yards. So in my case since I am right handed I will have to shoot left handed.  I have tried the standard sights before in this type of match with limited success.  I have heard from several that the old Weaver Qwik-Point is a good low cost sight for pistols.  This is the sight that has a globe on the front and does not require any batteries.  From what I can find out it was offered in R-1 and S-1.  R-1 for rifles and S-1 for shotguns.  There does not seem to be any mention of handguns.

Does anyone have in info on this old sight?  There was an article in gun world 1971 and AR in the 1970s I believe.

Thanks,

Bill T.

I used to have a Weaver Quick Point sight.

I mounted it on various .22 rifles and carbines and shot it quite a bit for a few months.  The dot is much too large for any kind of precision shooting.  It really is quick, and gave satisfactory performance under most lighting conditions.  However, since my main interest was small game hunting, it did not provide enough accuracy.

I finally traded it off at a gun show.
