Input, Input, need input
« on: December 13, 2007, 03:43:48 PM »
I am new to this forum, and a great one, and need some information about the handi-rifle. I cannot seem to find the answers I am looking for by reading all of the great information on this forum. I will try to ask questions that can be answered yes or no to make it easier.
1) If i purchased a new Ultra Varmint in 243, could i send it in and have a 24" fluted barrel in 204 fitted to it?
2) If i purchased a Ultra Varmint in 204, could i replace the synthetic stock with the laminated one?
3) Can a sb2 frame made after 1987 (per catalog) be sent in and have any factory barrel fitted to it?
4) can a rimfire rifle be fitted with a centerfire barrel?
5) Basicly can you mix and match stocks and barrels?
thank you in advance, I am sure I will have more questions before I make up my mind on what to purchase.

I am a million miles from an expert, but here goes
1  Yes
2  Yes
3  Yes
4  No
5  Maybe, if the barrel fits the frame otherwise you would have to fit it,see FAQ"S

I will wait untill  those who know a bunch more than I do to chime in and welcome to the fire, enjoy.   Doug

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Not exactly. 10ga shotgun barrels can not be fit to an SB2 frame and some older frames can not be fit with high pressure caliber barrels.
4) No
5) Sort off.  barrels are fit to a specific frame.  Sometimes a barrel from one frame will fit another without any modifications required.  Sometimes some filing or shimming of the hinge area of the barrel's underlug is required.  Note that the barrel will no longer fit it's original frame once this is done without refitting.  For the most part all stocks are interchangeable.

Check the FAQ string at the top of this page for more detailed info.   You can also find a chart there which will help you determine the year your frame was made based on the serial number.
