Wolf Primers -UPDATE-
« on: December 09, 2007, 01:07:46 AM »
I bought some Wolf brand Large Rifle Primers and have a concern. I prime with a Lee hand primer, and noticed that the Wolf primers take more, a LOT more, force to seat. This is in once fired .270 Winchester Brass, with the primer pockets thoroughly cleaned and de-burred. Some of the Wolf primers actually flattened slightly from the seating pressure.
I seated some Winchester Primers in the same brass and they seated easily.
I measured the Wolf primers and they are .0006 to .001 larger diameter than either the Winchester or CCI primers I have.
Is it safe to load with these primers? Or should I just try and return them.

Thanks

Ran into this with some CCIs awhile back , i just put them on the shelf and got some other primers , i then waited to use them on some other brass , took about 2 or 3 trys till i found some cases that they would fit .

I ran into the same problem with another brand a couple months ago. I used a different priming tool to seat them. It still took more than normal effort but the RCBS bench mounted tool did a great job. A press has a LOT more leverage than any hand tool for priming.

Just wanted to share my experience with Wolf customer service.
I sent them an e-mail Monday. They sent me an e-mail yesterday with a number to call and a person to talk to.
Called them today. They are sending me another brick of Large Rifle primers. No hassle. No arguments. Just an apology and a promise to send me replacements and find out why there was a problem.
Appear to be good folks to deal with.
