Peep sights and front sights!
« on: December 14, 2007, 12:43:13 PM »
Yes I've been all over the FAQ page.  It does show the Williams peep for the H&R Topper but I couldn't find one for the NEF Handi.  The Topper has the reduced diameter over the chamber and I thought the reduced radius would take a different rear peep then the NEF.  My question is, which Williams peep fits the NEF Handi and would that peep require a taller front sight?

I'm going to try to get a better sight on my .44 since the guy from Beartooth said he had a 285 gr with a longer bearing surface plus .432 that would be accurate in that older oversize bore.  My next .30-30 barrel will get a scope.

Then you missed the Peep and Firesights link in the FAQs, the WGRS can be purchased direct from H&R for $21.50 shipped, same for the FP and FP Target, but they cost a bit more. ;)

I have actually been there but they didn't list a part number but I suppose NEF would only sell the Williams that fit their rifle.  I will call them Monday and they should also know the proper front sight height also.  Thanks.

More than one person has asked for peep sights on Handis in the H&R Survey and Firesights have also been mentioned. H&R already offers the Williams FP sights as an accessary and the Williams WGRS peep sight comes standard on the Buffalo Classic and Target rifles. Both sights plus the other Williams peep sight are available from Williams or any Williams retailer like Midway and are available from H&R, also. The Williams shotgun shorty ramp will accept any of their Firesights and will fit most H&R barrel contours and comes with the same 6-48 screw as late production H&R front sights have......These are all bolt ons, no smithing required for most people.

UPDATE: H&R has switch the front sight mounting screw size to what appears to be a 3-48, which can be used with the Shorty Ramp, but isn't ideal . :'(

The Williams WGRS peep sight is available direct from H&R for $18.95(2005 price) part number R03019.

Williams has instructions on how to determine sight height on page 18 of their catalog which can be downloaded at Williams.

Maybe you should use a scope instead of iron sights since you can't see very well!!! :D It's in red, but I underlined it for ya too. ;)

So that's where the part number is listed!  I wanted it to flash on in off in red, maybe with some fireworks behind it.

Found that also.  It gave me the price of the retail parts.  My question was:  Which retail part.  I have now been told that it is RO3019.  There were several other Williams sights listed in FAQs.  Thanks.

The FP-Target is listed in the H&R Store including part number, but the plain FP isn't, you'd have to ask for that one by calling H&R.

NEF has three different heights of factory front sights, low, medium and high. On my 45-70 I went with the FP rear and the high front sight. The high front sight is barely high enough to work. It works ok with lever action loads, but I don't have any adjustment at trapdoor load levels (the rear sight bottoms out).
I would certainly try the factory front sights first as the least expensive alternative...
