Handy ham!
« on: December 12, 2007, 05:42:24 PM »
Hello to all!
Having found myself in a bit of poverty lately, hunger has turned my mind to thinking about
tasty things harvested from the forest. Now,I have never been the type that hunts for sport
or pleasure (no disrespect to those of you that do) but I have tasted doughnuts fried in
bear grease (to die for!)and bear ham. So,after talking with my dad about spring blackbear,
I decided to order a 45 70 handyrifle.I wanted to hunt them with my .308 mag (parker hale)
but dad said "shoot enough gun, cause there's monsters out there!"(big griz).
Also I'll be hunting with my brother. As a team, one will act as backup for the other
if somethin' dangerous presents itself.

More later 'yall...

I would say if you are worried about something eating you then a single shot is not enough gun, and hoping your brother is a better shot than you isn't much better.  Larry

Welcome aboard, zombiewolf, just hope you can run faster than your huntin partner, then ya don't have ta worry, right Larry!! :D :o ::)

I've afraid I have to agree, although Sourdough hunts with a 30-06 or 35 Whelen Handi all the time in Alaska, so it can be done, just not likely by me!! :D

Thanks for the reply, Larry!
Well, worry isn't my thing, but if I am eaten, it won't be because a mechanical action jammed.
My brother and I practice five shot salvos alternating with our 20 guage handis.
However, I would prefer a double rifle. Just can't afford one right now.
Mabey a remington spartan in the future.

Have at it, make sure the second best shot takes the first shot at the Bear.  Larry

Well hello Tim!
From what I have read so far, you are quite a gracious, and diplomatic
moderator. Thanks for the greeting and I'm glad to be here.
Seems there are a lot of very cool and knowledgable members here too.
I'm sure looking forward to talking with y'all.

                                                           more later,

Well, I dunno about the gracious and diplomatic part, but I are a moderator, at least for now!!! :D

Glad to have you here,  there are a bunch of Montana Handiholics here, so you should fit in nicely. ;)
