CharlesR:
It's time to hear the results of what you learned after pulling and weighing the left over loads.
I just got back on from a long layoff and read this whole post first thing.
I'd like to know what you learned from the loads.
Just because some of us have been loading since the 50's, me included sure don't mean we can't screw up. I've done it.
Just last week blew a break top open after the 4th loading of the same case I was testing to see how it looked after five and ten reloads one after another. fourth one broke the thinned down extractor on a NEF for a customized case made on the 5.7.
10.2 gr H110, to the bottom of the shoulder.
Only two other times I've had a problem. Popped a primer: hot load 23r AA2200/55gr in .223 in a hot gun, 105 degree day and left the shell in the chamber about 15 minutes to cook.
The other time I was given some WWI '06, or possibly '03 240gr loads that had set in an open tobacco can in a unheated garage for many yrs. about the 20th shot it fizzed and stuck one in the bore about 3/4 the way up. I was just a kid then and didn't know better. I pulled the rest down and fresh primer and powder. End of the problem til the .223 deal about four yrs ago.
I ALWAYS use a flashlite to check the charge's, last step. Had an a/hole "check my loading procedures" a few yrs ago. Purposely left some uncharged case's in the board to see if I'd catch them. Not only that, I just about 'caught up with him too!!!"
