.32 Crockett Rifle.
« on: December 08, 2007, 04:45:31 AM »
I was just curious, if there were any others out there that have this rifle, or for that matter have a .32?  For those that do shoot the small bore, dose your rifle like the .310 rb or the .315?

I have only shot squirrel with mine, What is the largest critter you guys have taken with yours?

I was also curious, would a stout load of FF or FFF and the little round ball be enough for coyote out to 50 yds?

I use Hornady buck shot in .300 with pillow tick patch in mine. You can buy the buck shot in 5lb box and is pretty cheap. Yes it is small diameter but it shoots good and it was cheap.

Try it

I use the Hornady 310 RB with .18 patches. I would have no problem with coyotes @50 yards using 3f or pyrodex P using around a 30grain charge. I have found that mine also shoots a 110grain connical very well with the same charge http://www.muzzleloader.biz/blackpowderbullets.htm I would have no problem using these out to 100 yards.

I love my Crockett!  I shoot the .310's and it does pretty dang good on squirrel heads out to about 35 yds or so, anything further and it is usually a clean miss for me(I'm practicing tho).  I had the opportunity to shoot a coyote while squirrel hunting last year and he dropped on the spot.  He was 30 yds away and I hit him right in the shoulder, I was very impressed with it.

I have killed 75+ rabbits 1 badger and 3 coyotes with mine the farthest coyote was about 90 yards he ran about 50 feet and fell over dead. .310 and .18 work the best for me. I have been going to try .32h&r pistol bullets .312 with a thin patch when time allows
