Bead front sight for GP100
« on: November 27, 2007, 10:28:44 AM »
Does anybody know where I can get a bead front sight for a GP100?  I like the V-notch rear sight with bead front, like on the Single-Six Hunter.  I've found a V-notch rear blade, but the closest I can find to a bead is fiber optics.  If there is none available I suppose it would be possible to somehow rig one up with something from a hardware store.  I know regular front sights for the GP100 are only around $10-15.  Any ideas?  Thanks,

Dan

IIRC, Ruger sells those sights, as an upgrade accessory for the Redhawk - the GVBR kit.

The sights are interchangeable.

Thanks!  I didn't realize they were interchangeable.  I'll check it out.

I've got a set that I had on my GP-100. They are great, but the bead is not fine enough for any fine target work, but it is a nice setup. Williams or TruGlo makes a fiber optic bead for the front sight on Redhawks and GP-100s. You might look into this as well. For sure, the brass bead looks nicer than that the fiber optic. I've got the complete front and rear fiber optic set on my 6" GP. The jury is still out on that one.

Just adding my .02.

 Steve,

That's OK--neither my eyesight nor my shooting ability is good enough for any "fine target work"  ;)  All kidding aside, there is just something about a shallow-V rear and bead front sight that makes it a little easier for me to hit the target, compared to square-notch/patridge sights.

:) Thanks for all the input, guys!  I've located a brass bead front sight, and it should be here any day now.
