What would you Load?
« on: December 05, 2007, 05:36:27 AM »
The Big Game Animal: Whitetail Deer
 The Rifle : Browning A Bolt .30-06 ,
Scope 3-9 x 50 Bushnell Elite
Shots are out to 300 yards, most around 200.

Question: What would your handload be for this set-up?

I have the same gun and hunt the same conditions you describe. I use a 150 grain Nosler Accubond bullet. I have used max charges of both RL-19 and IMR-4064, both with .75" grouping. This gun and load has killed 5 deer over the past three years.

i have a bbr and i like the 150's overall and we have tried a bunch of them in different weights.yu will be good to 200 easy but if your shooting 300 yu better shoot at that range a little to know just where its going.yu will never go wrong with a good 150 grn bullet and a good powder like 4064. settle on a good bullet that's economical and a good powder that's readily available and shoot the crap out of it and learn where it shoots.happy huntin!

The most accurate 165 gr bullet the gun prefers over XMR4350 (since I have an 8 lb keg).  I'd expect 2800 fps +.
Probably a Sierra or Nosler BT.

I would use a 165 grn bullet from Sierra or Hornady, gameking, prohunter,& btsp interlock. From my powder on hand I would use H 4350.

Dont have a 30-06 but I'm loading 130gr barnes tsx with 49 grs varget in my .308 and get great groups and 3100 fps. You could get around 3200 to 3300 in 06. And not have to worry about bullet blowup!

You do not need a premium bullet or one over 150 grains for deer. I buy corelokt by 1000 for a great savings and shoot and shoot and shoot. They are very accurate and almost always achieve total penetration on all sizes of deer. It is nice to have That quantity on your reloading bench when you are in the mood to mass produce. Heavier premium bullets do work for deer and I have nothing against them, just more weight and expense than needed.
