22 Hornet....brass.
« on: December 16, 2007, 08:17:12 PM »
How many reloads are you folks getting on your Hornet brass?  Are you guys neck sizing?  If so, how often do you have to full length size so the round chambers?  One final question...  I have the camo laminate stock on my present rifle...  With that high comb are the open sights even usable?

I full lth. size everytime. Trying to eliminate a stuck empty in the chamber. I'm guessing 4-5 reload's before brass start's splitting. Never kept track. I did take the ejector out of this gun.

DES,
I neck size the brass for my Hornet with no problems.
I am new to the Hornet, so I have only loaded mine
a few times. I just started using the Lee Factory
Crimp Die. It seemed to make a difference with
my Hornet. Groups are under 1" at 100 with
Sierra 45gr Hornet Varminter bullets and 12 grains
Lil' Gun powder.

I get 3 reloads out of my rem hornet brass.  It seem like it will split on the third firing EVERY time.  I am using Lee Pacesetter dies.  I had bought a Lee collett die and had a stuck case issue.  I'm sure the collett die will work well for me, I just havent had the time to play with it.

I am using the Lee Collet die (neck size only) and haven't had any stuck case issues.
I am new to the hornet and  have 5 or 6 reloads on my oldest brass and haven't lost one to
a split neck yet but I am watching carefully. So far, so good.
I am using 13.5 gr Lil'gun with 40 gr Vmax.

With my k-hornet I am not having the neck splitting issues but the primer pockets seem to loosen up quick, 3 loadings seems to be it.

I do a partial resize, I take the die down just enough to touch the shoulder. I have read more than one you should only go half way down the neck on a standard hornet.
