I recomend Tasco, believe it or not!
« on: January 21, 2003, 05:10:37 PM »
My most recently purchased .22's have worn Tasco scopes and I want to tell you folks that I'm impressed.  Now I'm not talking about those little BBgun jobs but rather the "Pronghorn" line. These are generally in the $20-30 range.   My Marlin .22 mag sports the "Pronghorn 4 X 40"  and I have to say that it's as clear as some of the $200 big-game scopes I've used.  It's $26 dollars at Wal-Mart.  My other Marlin, a .22lr bolt action, wears the "Pronghorn 4 X 32."  In three years of good use I've never had to readjust the crosshairs, and the clarity is remarkable.    Now, I wouldn't mount either of these on a centerfire, simply because I don't know whether or not they could take the recoil,  but for a .22 they're as good as it gets.  Don't wast your money on the more expensive 4X pieces.  Get a Tasco "Pronghorn."
Anyone else agree?

Massenrg, Now might be a good time to pick up a hand full of Tasco's as the Company went out of business. I heard Bushnell took over their line of so the rumor goes. I have no proof to that and if they did I am sure they would not honor the scopes Tasco made befor Bushnell took over the name if that is true. It would make sense that they did as Tasco and Bushnell pretty much were equal as far as inexpensive scopes go price wise and probably were in direct competition with each other. Still in all I agree with you I have had good luck with Tasco's. I just bought a Tasco Optima on clearance as the company went out of business so I got a 289.00 marked sight for 40 bucks. For that kind of money if it goes bad No big deal. My Henry 22 mag wears a 3x12 Tasco I bought NIB at a rummage sale for 2 bucks this summer you could tell it was new no scratches or ring marks! If I find any more Tasco's cheap I will buy them as I feel for the money they are fine scopes. They are no Leopold but they do the job. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

I own 2 Tasco 4x40wc scopes. I have had them both for about 10 years and they served me well. Just dont knock them too hard! I use mine mainly for spotlighting rabbits from a 4x4 and as most know, they do get a knock once and a while. The first time i noticed the problem was when i lined up a rabbit and missed him completely! I had a good rest and the car was only 30m from him. I had shot them in the eye all night. I remember knocking the rifle on the cars roll bar prior to this shot. i sighted the rifle in again and it fired true. However, on turning the scope upside down and correcting it again it was off by atleast 3 feet again! Both my tasco's have done this. Warranty is Limited lifetime and i had NO problem getting the scopes fixed. This was even after Bushnell had taken over  the company. I am on a tight budget and i WOULD purchase another Tasco again for a rimfire. I have Leupold scopes for my Centerfires though.

Weatherby223, I am just curious as to when did you have the scopes Fixed? Since Bushnell recently took over the name if that is true, I am wondering if Tasco still had control of the Company when you sent them in for Warranty? Otherwise if Bushnell did honor the Tasco Warrant that is a pretty good deal. Jim

I just called Bushnell to find out what the deal was and yes they bought out the Tasco name and will start making scopes under that name. They will not repair Tasco scopes themselves and honor Tasco's warranty but do have a place where you can send them to get them fixed. I did not ask as I do not have anything to be repaired at this time and by the time I do that situation might change also I am sure there will be a charge as this company is a third party and that is what Bushnell's rep seemed to think. So the bottom line is Bushnell did take over Tasco and will start making scopes under that name but have not yet and will honor ther scopes that they will be making of course for warranty but not the scopes made by the origional Tasco Company. Also I tried to access the Tasco web page and it was not available.  Jim

All i know is that here in Australia they will honour our warranty and have done so with my scopes. I have had them for 10 years and they just needed repair 2 months ago. i was worried that Bushnell would not take the responsibility, but they did. No worries. Be careful however! My Tasco scopes were made in Japan and i believe they are now made more cheaply in Taiwan by Hakko.. :D

jh45gun. I just went on Tasco Australia's web site and all is the same. Watch out that Bushnell is not feeding you BS! If they market a product under the same name they ARE responsible for the warranty of the product which carries the same name. They aquired Tasco's problems also when they took over. I know that volume of repair would be quite different from US as to what it would be in Australia. I guess they are just hoping people would cut their losses and save Bushnell  the expense of fixing someone elses problems which should be their own. Bushnell should know that it only takes 1 time for a person to get burnt and they will never return to the source of the heat!

Well Mick you may be right as not all factory personnell have there act together all the time I was just going on what he said. I may be wrong on this also  but when Weaver was taken over I am sure they did not honor the warranty on their older scopes at least that is what I was told at my gunshop and Bushnell might be deciding to go that route I do not know only know what their rep told me. like I said he did say he could tell me a place to get it fixed and maybe that is what they are going to do subcontract the work I only know he said Bushnell was not going to do it. It is a Toll free # so maybe tomorrow I will call back and double check and post what  I find out. Jim
