That's been the answer for more than one of us, Big Blue cut his to 27" too. ;)  His ammo is loaded with the discontinued 400gr Barnes X.

I have a 22" barrel on the way (thanks CoyoteJoe) to get me started shooting the 45-70.
However, I have really taken a shine to the BC and will be buying one after the holidays. I will hunt with the 22" and shoot targets with the BC.
I really appreciate all of the good advice you guys have been giving me (buy both!).
The reloading info. is going to come in handy.
For the price of ammo. I need all the reloading info. I can get!!

I think it would be fun the get into black powder reloading for the BC. I have been reading the forum on here and it seems pretty interesting.

I bought a Lee hand loader to get started for the 45-70. I have one for my 30-30 and it works well enough. Should do fine starting out for me.

Thanks for all the responses and please keep the words of wisdom coming.
Keep in mind, this is going to be my first ever 45-70 and I'm really looking forward to having fun and learning alot with it!!

Thanks to all.

Enjoy the Holidays and may God keep you all safe!!
