Marlin Modern Lever Action Model Letter Designations

FYI:

A = Rifle
C = Carbine
D = Davidson's edition, and some M-39's
G = Guide Gun
M = 1895 in 450 Marlin.
P = Ported, used with 444 and 1894
S = Sporter, .44 Mag 1894 & 444 Marlin
T = Texan, 336 & 444 rifles with straight stock & square levers
AS = Birchwood stocked rifles
AW = Wal-Mart special
CB = Cowboy (octagon barrels)
CL = Classic, Limited
ER = Extended Range (.356 Win caliber)
FG = .41 Magnum Model 1894
MR = 450 Marlin Rifle ILO say, a .450M Guide Gun (M)
RC = Regular Carbine
SC = Sporting Carbine (2/3 mag, pistol grip)
SS = Originally used with 444 Marlin, now all Sporter w/Safety
SS = Stainless Steel (sometimes confused with Sporter Safety)
LTD = Limited Edition
XLR = Extra Long Range (24", lamo stock, stainless)

*** = Stamped on both ends of the model designates a Ballard Barrel vs. the MicroGroove Barrel. i.e, *** 444P ***
